AMC 401

Showing off my fresh 401. The camera doesn't do the exhaust and engine noise justice... It sounds beastly in person- I promise :)

Breaking Bad's Giancarlo Esposito On Last Night's Shocking Season Premiere

I had no doubt in my ability to be able to make it all happen, but I had some deep concern about being able to do it and coming out of it unscathed, without really hurting my spirit and my soul. I heard you had to put the premiere script down and walk away from it for a little while when you first read it. I did. After reading it for the first time, I was a little bit shaken and I put it down. In last night's season-four premiere , [ SPOILER ALERT ] he delivers his most shocking scene to date, silently and stoically intimidating Walter White and Jesse Pinkman — until, in a split-second twist, he gets ultra-violent.

A: run a hot wire to the coil ,,and make sure you have a good battery hook up on it,,yo wont run it for long,,but you can hear it run long enough,,you can use a gallon jug as a gas tank,,just be care full that it doe not back fire on you,,other wise it will start and run if you get power to the coil,,and the starter,,be CARE full,,i hope this help,s. Q:

I have a amc javolin and I want to know if a 401 will bolt up to 727 tranny?

I have a amc javolin and I want to know if a 401 will bolt up to 727 tranny?
(asked by Jay guy on April 01, 2008)

A: Hi, i am not entirely sure but if i remember correctly the 727 tranny is a Chrysler tranny. Some cars in the 60's and 70's had interchangeable parts but i dont think this is one of them. I know the AMC transmissions were slushboxes at best and was probably the main failing or fault of the cars. You'll need to stick with the original AMC transmissions in order to use the AMC 401. Otherwise, change out the motor and trans from some other car. Check with a big salvage yard that specializes in antique car parts. They have books that list everything that interchanges between models. Try to find a 4 speed that came out of a 390 or 401 AMX.....still a slushbox but a little more stout. Good Luck!! Q:

I have a 1976 AMC 401 V8 in my CJ5, what Automatic Transmissions and 5 speed transmissions can i bolt on it?

I'm trying to find a tranny to do a straight bolt on, dont want to have to buy a whole bunch of extra conversion kits, parts, or other stuff. needs to also attach to a Dana 300 Transfer Case. Thanks
(asked by Nick on February 05, 7279)

A: your choices with bolt on automatics are the torqueflite 727 or GM turbo 400, both of which can be sources from Wagoners full sized Cherokees from the 70's. Both are fine transmissions. With manual trans the 2wd amc guys bolt in t5's from mustangs but I doubt that will work with a transfer case. You might be stuck with the Borg Warner stock 4 speed, which is also a nice trans. you can find these in CJ's. Get on a jeep forum and ask there. Take care of that 401, they are hard to come by and cost (I'd love one). (answered by javelin1973401 on February 05, 6305)
