Greg Zyla: 1950 Lincoln lover needs 'parts sharing' information

Now before you get too upset, car manufacturers have been outsourcing items for along time, including three speed manuals, four speeds and many other mechanical and electrical parts. Q: Greg, there's nothing better than reading about old cars and nostalgia, so I have a question about the 1950 Lincoln. In 1950, a new option called the self-shifting "Hydra-Matic" appeared on the option list, and the transmission was indeed designed and delivered from General Motors. Is it true that in 1950, the Lincoln offered a General Motors automatic transmission as an option. A: Frank, your friends are correct about the transmission.

You Ask We Answer

Q:

What's a worse car: an AMC Pacer or a Gremlin?

(asked by SoCal Attorney on November 12, 2007)

A: Man, those would be classic cars now if you had one that ran, especially if it had one of those funky colors like orange or green. (answered by grouch2111 on November 12, 2007)

A: Both (answered by Lynn on November 12, 2007)

Q:

Good first car? Pinto, Vega, or Gremlin?

I'm thinking of getting a teenage relative a cheap 1970's compact car as a gift. I'm torn between the AMC Gremlin, Ford Pinto, and Chevrolet Vega. Which one of these three would be best? Also, I MIGHT consider splurging and getting him a Ford Maverick or Plymouth Valiant.
EDIT: I realize the "alleged" flaws with these vehicles, but the simple fact of the matter is, I'm not going to blow copious amounts of money on a "newer" car with a whole bunch of alleged "safety features" that take away from the driving experience. There is NO REASON a new driver needs a Hummer H2 or Mercedes S500, IMO.
(asked by Lee G on November 21, 2007)

A: The Vega actually is a cool looking car compared to all of those.I 'm suprised you can find one.If you want one that is superior to the Vega mechanically try a Chevy Monza. They look pretty cool too. (answered by Barking Bear on November 21, 2007)

A: nice....i think that the upkeep on any of these cars will be very expensive (answered by Brent on November 21, 2007)

Q:

Which car will get me the most chicks: A 1977 Gremlin or a 77' AMC Pacer?

Will flames painted on the side to cover up the rust help?
(asked by gyorzxk on April 13, 2007)

A: ah be still my heart. Either one would do it for me, especially if it's you behind the wheel.....wink (answered by ...................... on April 13, 2007)
