Sudden acceleration: Dramatic case histories of cars 'that wanted to take off Last week my 1998 Acura CL 3.0 accelerated out of control. I have driven this car for years without any problems. I parked in a business parking lot,
Q:
where is the transmission pan located on 99 acura cl?
I have a 1999 acura cl, and the transmission is slipping, The car was put on a lift, and we can't locate a pan for the transmission. Is this transmission even servicable

A: It doesn't have a pan. The only service you can do is to drain and flush the fluid. There is a filter but the transmission has to be removed and disassembled to replace it.
Changing the fluid may solve the problem, if it's old, low or burnt, it could cause slipping. Use only Honda or Acura fluid. (answered by dk on August 27, 2009)
A: well its under the tranny,so with that said look for a of shape pan with many bolts it will be off to the side of the engine and look for the oil plug so you know that its not the oil pan ur dropping and the oil pan is hooked to the engine block and is a lot bigger and thicker the a tranny pan.If it is slipping you may as well plan on a new tranny.

Q:
1999 Acura CL Transmission died so early?
Hi,
I have a 1999 Acura CL 3.0 and its transmission just died. I just drove this for 130K miles and provided this is a Japanese car I am shocked to see this issue.
Does anyone know if there is any pending class action lawsuit for this?
Acura is saying that it will cost about $3,400 to fix this. It is so costly!! Any workaround?
I have always taken it to Acura dealers for regular service and maintenance. Plus, is never abused. I always drove it well. It's a shock for me.
Thanks for your answers!!

A: Honda did have a recall for this issue. You can google it, mainly for 99-03 versions.
I believe the issue was the 3rd gear clutch disk being of less than satisfactory materials.
Nothing you do can fix that short of a revised trans, so what the others said about maintaining cars being THE cure in ALL cases....bullsh!t. (answered by alfredb1979 on October 27, 2009)
A: well the mileage ain't the issue, was the transmission abused? like hard acceleration from a stop? was it maintained? fluids should have been flushed and filter replaced at some kind of interval like every 30,000 miles, if you rode it hard and did no maintenance then you should be happy as hell it lasted that long.

Q:
1997 Acura CL Transmission/EGR?
My Acura 3.0CL with 79k original miles has been acting up for a few months now. When the engine is cold, the car shifts very rough. Like when i start the car and shift it into gear, it takes a second for it to engage then it kind of jumps. When shifting into each gear, it feels rough and shifts really late. And when I stop, it jolts a little. The transmission is PERFECT when the engine is warm. ALL of the fluids have already been changed...and I heard the EGR sensor may be at fault here. Could it be this? Has anyone else had this problem? Help me before my parents trade my baby in for a new car I dont like! Thanks!
