Q:
2001 Acura CL...Does adding different wheels (other than stock) hurt your ability to keep them balanced?
I am needing to replace my tires soon and was thinking of buying larger tires and wheels (18-20") but someone told me that you can't keep them balanced as well as the stock wheels. Is that true?(asked by Flyboy in Red on May 08, 2006)
A: Balancing the tires should not be a problem. Now depending on how radical you are with the tire/wheel change you can significantly alter the handling, stopping and performance characteristics. You could be changing the suspension geometry and loading. Now can that cause the tire/wheels to become unbalanced sooned PROBABLY but you will have a different stress on the suspension. A: I have never heard of that, the shop that installs them will do a good job of balancing (answered by montana on May 08, 2006)Q:
I drive an acura cl 3.0 and there's a loud grinding sound when i turn my steering wheel, what could that be?
(asked by cool j on July 05, 2006)
A: I would call that an invitation to visit the repair shop. Uh, you might want to call the tow truck before the steering goes out and you endanger someone on the street because you are going forward but can't turn. I wouldn't want to be on the sidewalk nearby when it quits. (answered by Rabbit on July 05, 2006)
A: CV joints or brake rotors. or wheel bearings (answered by bentworth78 on July 05, 2006)Q:
I have a '97 Acura CL, just recently it started making a grinding noise in the passenger's side front wheel...
it ONLY did this whenever I applied the brakes, then I noticed that the noise would continue for a short time 5-10 seconds after the brakes where released and I began accelerating, now I'm no dummy when it comes to auto-mechanics but I want an opinion out of a more experienced mechanic, I'm believing that it is only the brake pads that need replaced at this time (I have not inspected them yet) but I would like to know if there is a possibility that it could also be the wheel bearing (as I said it only does it when and after the brakes are applied). All response are greatly appreciated.(asked by Evil Bastard on November 23, 2007)
A: it is the pads ..but if ya got grinding then you will be replaceing the rotors too cause they will have to deep of grooves to machine out (answered by goat on November 23, 2007)
