A: BMW 3 series cars don't depreciate much, so why buy it used. I would opt for a new one, get the color and features you want and also full warranty from day one. The 2006 was the first year of the new body style. A lot of things changed from 2005 to 2006, so be careful - try not to buy the first year of a major model change (and definitely not the first 2 months it was built). Also, a Certified Pre-Owned (CPO) 3 series will cost you nearly as much as a new 2007 (certification cost is paid by the dealership and charged to the customer in the purchase price of the car). Body on the 2006 and 2007 are the same. The 2007 has more power.
A used 2006 or 2007 BMW 3 series is probably a dealer loaner car. That means there have been lots of drivers using your car. All different driving styles. Some very soft. Some floor it at ever corner. Some abuse the car and red line, slam on the brakes, drift in corners, etc. You have no clue how hard the car was driven, but chances are that someone who used it abused it. Also, the cars are put into loaner service with 10 miles on it. The owners manual gives you a break in period where the new car needs to be driven gently. Future problems will arise if the car is not broken in properly. I doubt the people who took out the loaner cars were told how to break the car in. One last thing - your option and color choice is limited on used cars, because you can only choose cars that are for sale. You will be paying for things that you didn't want and you could get stuck with the wrong color.
Consider all this and I believe the choice is obvious. Just pay a little extra and get a brand new 2007 BMW 328i with all the features you want in the color you want.
I hope this helps.

A: Most of the dealers have a prepaid maintenance plan available. Mine covers 2 years and up to 100,000 miles for $1500. That includes oil service (115) (4 times so far) new brakes and rotors all around (1000) and AC maintenance evaporator replacement (680). Not to mention wiper blades at (30) ea and bulbs. The also flushed and filled cooling and brake systems. Almost forgot the serpentine belt and hoses as scheduled. Turns out to be a great deal! Pluss if it is in the first 48 months/ 50,000 miles it is free! (answered by jkrd156 on July 17, 2009)
