A Scrambled BMW R100/7 [Photo Gallery]

And the Spaniards at Cafe Racer Dreams (CRD) are really mastering the art of making stock things look so much better: this 1978 BMW R100/7 is one of the best proofs that one does not necessarily need to chop a bike down to bits to make it shine. Most of the parts in this old BMW R100/7 are original: the frame, the carbs, the fork and tank are all BMW, and have received only minor modifications. The rear of the bike sits on Harley-Davidson Sportster 1200 shocks, while the front end received Renthal Ultra Low bars with CRD grips, a CRD headlight and a diminutive Motogadget gauge. Its always nice to see just how well can a bike look even with several well-thought modifications. Unlike in other cases, CRD decided they should keep the airbox, but loaded it with better K&N breathers, so thats why this build looks a bit more massive: the negative space under the seat is not that huge now.

(asked by okgogos on June 06, 2009)

A: I take it your refering to the buttons on the steering wheel, R stands for radio and T stands for telephone, it's so you can switch from one to the other, that's if you have the telephone option, i hope this helps (answered by Martyn on June 06, 2009)

Q:

Would this BMW be worth it?

I'm 16, and this would be my first car. I've heard that replacement parts for used BMWs are hard to come by for models older than 10 years, and are ridiculously expensive. I'm not sure it will be a worthy investment if the maintenance outweighs the price of the car. Also, this particular model has 134,000 miles on it. How much longer will it be expected to run? I really like the car, and physically, it looks like it's in good condition. Thoughts?

A: MB77 speaks the truth

BMW engines are still meer toddlers at 134,000 mi. Just make sure they have maintenace records when buying a BMW because its the things "around" the engine that will go wrong before the engine. And the parts arent expensive its the labor. So maybe this is a good time to start brushing up on mechanical skills and DIY with your first car!! :-)

So as long as it can be proved that the car has been mechanically maintained (i.e. on time oil changes and major services) then this will make a real nice first car. I imagine it is [in good mechanical condition] because it doesnt even average 10000 mi/yr and, like you said, the car is in great cosmetic condition, which is "sometimes" a good indication that it is in good mechanical condition too(Especially in a car of that age). Just dont expect very low insurance rates. I too wanted a BMW as my first car (E36 3 Series) btu i got a probe instead. (answered by G W on March 29, 2009)

A: I wouldn't touch it with a ten foot pole. It'll be a waste of money. Buy a car that is less than 5 years old and fewer than 65,000 miles on it. (answered by kenoplayer on March 29, 2009)
