Chevy Cruze helps GM lead the industry in July 2011 sales

The GMC Sierra pickup family was the top model in terms of volume with 12,596 trucks sold but the Acadia was close on its heels with 10,424 units sold while the compact Terrain was third in sales with 7,302 units sold. 6% improvement placed them 4th among major automotive groups behind Chrysler, BMW and Ford Motor Company but their 214,915 cars, trucks, vans and SUVs sold last month allowed GM to hold onto the title of being the top selling automaker in the US... The American auto industry as a whole was down a bit compared to June but for the American automakers, July 2011 showed year over year improvements in General Motors was no exception. 8% as it moved 7,302 units and the Acadia SUV was third in growth with a jump of 87% over last July. 4% as they sent out 37,918 news trucks and SUVs – making GMC the second largest GM brand in terms of sales volume behind only Chevrolet.

Q:

1999 Buick Regal GS requires premium gas. Can I use a lower octane and supplement with Octane boost?

I just bought a 1999 Buick Regal GS, which is supercharged. It requires premium unleaded gas. I was curious if I could buy 87 or 89 octane and add a bottle of octane boost. This might be cheaper considering the price of gas these days. Any thoughts?
(asked by Winner winner chicken dinner! on February 26, 2008)

A: Octanes are suggested for optimal engine performance. You should use what it calls for to maintain a healthy motor.

"Many high-performance engines are designed to operate with a high maximum compression and thus need a high quality (high energy) fuel usually associated with high octane numbers and thus demand high-octane premium gasoline.

The power output of an engine depends on the energy content of its fuel, and this bears no simple relationship to the octane rating. A common understanding that may apply in only limited circumstances amongst petrol consumers is that adding a higher octane fuel to a vehicle's engine will increase its performance and/or lessen its fuel consumption; this may be false under most conditions — while engines perform best when using fuel with the octane rating for which they were designed and any increase in performance by using a fuel with a different octane rating is minimal or even imaginary, unless there are carbon hotspots, fuel injector clogging or other conditions that may cause a lean situation that can cause knocking that are more common in high mileage vehicles, which would cause modern cars to retard timing thus leading to a loss of both responsiveness and fuel economy. This also does not apply to turbocharged vehicles, which may be allowed to run greater advance in certain circumstances due to external temperatures." (answered by Susan B on February 27, 2008)

A: i would stick to the correct gas to prevent any problems. or trade the car in. you can try and get buy with regular gas unless it starts to ping/knock. also it will have less power on regular gas (answered by Dan on February 26, 2008)

Q:

Where is the starter relay located on a 1996 buick regal?

I have an intermittant starting issue on a Buick Regal. I checked for power at the starter solenoid when the key was in crank, but no dice. Most vehicles have a starter relay that is energised by the key which in turn energised the starter solenoid. Does anyone know where this may be located? I can't find it.
(asked by triden55 on October 03, 2007)

A: on all the gm vehicles i have ever seen, they do not use a relay to control starter activity. instead they use a solenoid which is very similar in function but quite the same shape. the solenoid is located on the starter it self. if you fallow the positive wire all the way down to the starter you will find that the wire is bolted to the solenoid.
