8, when a 52-year-old resident of Carver Place called police to report that he had just discovered that someone had caused more than $1,000 worth of damage to his 2001 Volvo C70 convertible, which was parked in the lot in front of the man’s condo... The top of the convertible was sliced, the driver’s side mirror was broken off and the glass of the passenger’s side mirror was smashed, he said. The car’s owner told police he believed the crime happened sometime between 7:30 p. m. Sunday and about 8:30 a. m. on Monday. A: 2.4's are very reliable engines with very few problems.
The first 2.7's had serious problems with getting sludge if oil wasn't changed religuosly at 3000 miles. However, some Toyota engines also had the exact same problems in some of their engines with getting sludge. (I won't forget to mention that VW also had a lot of problems with sludge in their engines, just for fairness sake.)
In fact, if you google "toyota engine sludge", you will get a whole lot more results than what "chrysler engine sludge" pulls up. The sludge issue is just one of the many reasons Consumer Reports downgraded Toyota's rankings recently. (answered by Mark B on May 30, 2008)
