While calling Bucyrus “a great name” in the mining industry, it was a name that Caterpillar didn’t choose to keep. Caterpillar Group President Steve Wunning said the company wanted one face for the mining customer and that name was Caterpillar. wasted no time in changing the name of Bucyrus, the South Milwaukee-based mining giant that Caterpillar formally acquired last week. “The rest of the deal was pretty easy but the name change was very difficult,” former Bucyrus CEO Tim Sullivan was quoted as saying, referring to the 131-year-old company.
