The Earl of Pembroke took part and drove his Datsun 240Z in the rally, which organisers hope will raise £40000 to be split between the two charities.
The car was light and sleek like a racer and many were turned into race cars and campaigned in Sports Car Club of America competition and with other sanctioning groups. With many 40-year-old collectible cars these types of modifications would make one cringe. I recently spotted this red Datsun 240Z in a parking garage near the office. But purists don’t seem to raise much fuss when this happens to an old Z. But the 240Z has never been especially popular among collectors despite its beautiful shape and the sensation it caused when new.

A: I am not 100% sure what happened to the 240Z rally car, but the 510 rally car is in Nissan's museum in Japan. I would probably be safe to assume that it is in the same place. The rally cars were used only in other countries so I really don't think any of them would be in the US. Thats why you only see replicas here. (answered by 510Driver on September 22, 2006)

A: Wow, these people are really discouraging! Sure, you can do it. I converted a Geo Tracker. The 240z is a fairly light car. Write me and I can help you.
Have a look at EVParts.com and look under "Street Vehicle", then Motors. You will need something like the L91-4003, which will give you 13 continuous hp and 72 peak. My Tracker can go 70 mph on 120 volts, and the 240z has much better aerodynamics. I use a Curtis 1221C controller, but there are some that are better and less expensive. You want one that will go to at least 144 volts, even if you don't start out with 144 volts.
You need to be a decent mechanic and the ability to do some minor design work, like your motor mounts and transmission adapters, but I can help you with those.
