Vintage 240Z: Not Quite Original, But Who Cares?

The car was light and sleek like a racer and many were turned into race cars and campaigned in Sports Car Club of America competition and with other sanctioning groups. With many 40-year-old collectible cars these types of modifications would make one cringe. I recently spotted this red Datsun 240Z in a parking garage near the office. 4-liter in-line six-cylinder engines pulled like locomotives and outperformed many larger V8 power plants of the period.

Q:

is a Datsun 280z a good car?

just need an opinion.

A: You should also consider that such a car may be expensive to insure. Check your insurance rates before buying one, for example here - carinsurance.enacre.net (answered by on May 21, 2009)

A: Sure. Its a car Nissan fans love. However since they are pretty old now you will need to maintain them more. (answered by Garage411.com on May 19, 2009)

Q:

Datsun 260 or 280z as a first car.?

Is it a bad choice to look into one of these as a first car. I really like these cars, and it would be awesome if I could get my hands on one. Will it be reliable? How do they drive? is it a bad choice as a first car? If so, any recommendations to similar cars or older cars like Datsuns that would be good? I really like these cars, and driving one would be awesome. Id probably use it on a day to day basis going to and from school, but will also be using it for long trips too. How will a car like this fare? Im tight on money too. As long as I can find one in good condition that runs fine for under about 7 grand, that would be a dream come true.

A: Like all cars of this era your choices will probably be between clapped-out and abused examples which will need constant care and feeding or beautifully maintained or meticulously restored examples that will be expensive to purchase and you'll be afraid to drive for fear of damaging it.

And like any 30 year-old vehicle scarce parts availability combined with age makes them great weekend cars, but not necessarily good daily drivers. (answered by Mark F on March 13, 2008)

Q:

i have a 1975 datsun 280Z it will start but will die after will not stay running help?

i need help getting my car running again
(asked by bjwfreeway on February 10, 8918)

A: After 34 years things get old. If the rubber boot is torn out to the air flow meter motor will try to start but not have enough flow to keep the fuel pump contact closed inside the meter. Other things are the plugs on the distributor corroded or loose. (answered by on February 10, 6076)
