In my life, I've driven a Chevy Corvair, a Datsun pickup, a Ford Maverick, a Datsun B210 Hatchback, a Chevy Chevette, a Dodge Omni, and among them, nothing I'd ever want to drive again. I've had my present car for going on ten years now,

Q:

Why does brake warning light on Datsun B210 stay on for a period, then go off?

Brake warning light on dash of Datsun B210 stays on for a few minutes after braking, then goes off. Last night I discovered that all the brake lights (rear of car) were on when car was parked, and off! When I stepped on the brake pedal, the rear brake lights all went off.

I replaced front brakes 3,000 miles ago, brake fluid level is OK, and there are no other indications of a problem with braking system.

When driving, almost every time I step on the brake, the dashboard warning light comes on and stays on for varying periods up to 5-10 minutes, then goes off. Rear brake lights staying on with car parked and ignition off is a new (but probably related) problem that has developed recently. Any ideas, suggestions, or insights will be appreciated.
Thanks
Replaced sensor switch on brake pedal. That is working fine. Master cylinder if full, and there does not seem to be any sponginess or pedal creep that might indicate air in the lines.
For the past several days, the brake lights have been on (sporadically) while the car is stopped, ignition off. Checking the brake pedal switch indicates the sensor/plunger/switch is in the depressed position (breaking the circuit). A light tap on the brake pedal (during which the brake pedal switch appears to function normally, activating brake lights, then breaking the circuit.

A: Your break light sensor/switch is sticking. It's usually located on the floor of the vehicle behind the brake pedal. Spray some WD-40 on it and see if that helps it. (answered by soaplakegirl on September 06, 2007)

Q:

Where is the resistor between the ignition switch and the ignition coil on a 1978 Datsun B210?

My manual shows a resistor somewhere between the ignition switch and the ignition coil, but I can't find it.

Where is the resistor?

(asked by Kevin on August 02, 2009)

A: It is there but can be in two ways. The first way is they use resistor wire which has resistance built into the wire length. The second way is that near the coil there is a white block with two terminals on either end, which puts the resistance to the positive coil terminal.

I work on all years of Datsun cars. The A12 or A13 engine in your car is a really good engine also. (answered by Chris on August 02, 2009)

(asked by music4me on October 20, 2009)

A: No, of course not. They are two totally different cars made by two different companies. They share nothing. (answered by PMack on October 20, 2009)
