That business, Sun Bulb Co. , is now a national leader in orchids and orchid supply, a nearly $200 million niche segment of the flower industry that caters to hobbyists and horticultural fanatics. But it was the orchid, over the prey, that magnetized Hollingsworth’s young son, A. P. Hollingsworth. Hollingsworth and his wife, Mildred Hollingsworth, would assemble the plants in the garage, load up the products in the family station wagon and drive 90 miles to Tampa to sell the wares. The National Weather Service forecasts that the low in Sarasota will drop to 41 degrees – one degree above the record set in 1979. Areas inland and to the north will be colder A frost advisory has been posted for Manatee, DeSoto, Hardee, Hillsborough and several other counties. The following shelters will open at 8 p. m. : Salvation Army Center of Hope, 1400 10th St. , Sarasota. In response, Sarasota County Emergency Management have coordinated with the American Red Cross, Salvation Army and community faith-based partners to provide cold-weather sheltering. According to the National Weather Service, the temperature was 43 degrees at Sarasota-Bradenton International Airport just before 6 a. m. Earlier Sarasota appears to have missed setting a record this morning for the overnight low temperature – barely. Opening at 8 p. m. : New Hope Community Church, 5600 South Biscayne Drive, North Port/Charlotte County. Tonight's low is also expected to approach record-breaking levels.
