Q:
A: The oil pressure needs to checked with a manual gauge. If it ok, replace the sender. If it is actually low, he has done damage to the bearings. This is most likely the case if the oil pressure is ok at idle but drops when driven. If they had to clean the oil pump pick up, that means that it was sludge starving the engine of oil while he was driving it. This wears the crank shaft bearings and opens up their clearance. With worn bearings the new oil pump may not be able to keep up. It could also have enough sludge in the oil return passages to slow down the drain back. The higher the rpm more oil is circulated and when sludge builds up it returns back to the pan slower. This can cause the oil pump to suck air and the pressure to drop out. The original shop should have started by checking the pressure with a manual gauge . When they replaced the oil pump they also should have removed some rod caps and main caps to check the bearing wear and crank shaft condition. (answered by sprinkles on March 30, 2008)
A: someone needs to try changing the oil pressure sending unit on it ,that's the switch that sends the signal to the gage to work,if it goes bad it will cause it to read low but not actually be low,and it could have a bad gage in it also, these things need to be checked also,it may just be a bad sending unit on it they will make one show a low oil pressure but not really have it,good luck with finding it.try a sending unit before you spend any more money on it. REMOVAL
CAUTION: DO NOT LET TENSIONER ARM SNAP BACK TO THE FREEARM POSITION, SEVER DAMAGE MAY OCCUR TO THE TENSIONER.
Belt tension is not adjustable. Belt adjustment is maintained by an automatic ( spring load ) belt tensioner.
Disconnect negative battery cable from battery.
Rotate belt tensioner until it contacts it's stop. Remove belt, then slowly rotate the tensioner into the freearm position. Belt Routing - 4.7L
INSTALLATION
Belt tension is not adjustable. Belt adjustment is maintained by an automatic ( spring load ) belt tensioner.
Check condition of all pulleys
CAUTION: When installing the serpentine accessory drive belt, the belt MUST be routed correctly. If not, the engine may overheat due to the water pump rotating in the wrong direction Belt Routing - 4.7L
Install new belt Belt Routing - 4.7L Route the belt around all pulleys except the idler pulley. Rotate the tensioner arm until it contacts it's stop position. Route the belt around the idler and slowly let the tensioner rotate into the belt. Make sure the belt is seated onto all pulleys.
With the drive belt installed, inspect the belt wear indicator Accessory Drive Belt Wear Indicator - 4.7L Engine On 4.7L Engines only, the gap between the tang and the housing stop ( measurement A ) must not exceed 24 mm (.94 inches) If the measurement exceedes this specification replace the serpentine accessory drive belt.
