i have a 2002 Dodge cummins with 80000 miles and i have the Edge with attiuide chip 150 hp bd injectores a southbend clutch a new VP44 pump and a Fass 150 gph fule pump my problem iis when i floor the truck it goes but as soon as i let off it sputters realy bad and sumtimes dies i changed the filters and the shop says the truck is suckin in air i have to wait two weeks till the guy who installed my pump get back in town but dose anyone have any ideas what could be causing my air problem

A: check the fuel heater element down by the fuel transfer pump ive found these melted and sucking air if this is the case it can be bypassed (answered by bobin35 on March 17, 2007)

What is the most miles you have seen on a Dodge Cummins?
12 valve and 24 valve, please state year and if equipped with 4 wheel drive. I am looking at a 1994 Dodge Cummins with around 250,000 miles with 4 wheel drive. Do Cummins last a long time, more than power stroke's, more than duramax's? I hear Cummins the best. Thank you to all who answer!

A: most miles I've seen is on a 93 cummins 12 valve 4x4 3/4 ton. 725,000 at least that as long as the odometer cable lasted lol. if the engine is taken care of any frankly the cummins doesnt ask for much really. the cummins will easily outlast the ford and chevy diesels. the big difference in the longetivity is in how there built. they use a sleeve inside the cylinder which prevents the stress from ignition from wearing out the engine block itself. this is similiar to the engines used in semi trucks. the chevy diesels ( 6.2/6.5) never used the sleeve neither does the duramax. some versions of the power stroke do use the sleeve.this is why a power stroke will outlast a chevy diesel,and a cummins will outlast the ford. need more proof, do a search for dodge diesel million mile clubs,and see how many hits ya have,then do same for chevy and ford. the dodge membership will have have higher membership numbers with trucks that have the ORIGINAL engine (answered by yankeegray_99 on December 02, 2009)

All last as long as you make regular maintence
The difference between the Cummins, Power Stroke, and Duramax is that the Cummins is way easier to fix, 6 cylinder versus 8.
Plus the 12 valve has a lot of engine mods out there and again a lot easier to install compared to the others
My personal opinion yes the Cummins is the best, but the chevy and ford guys will say other wise

How to tell if Dodge pickup has 6100 Cummins?
I'm wanting to buy a newer Dodge Cummins 2003-2006. I would like to get on with the 6100 Cummins the high output Cummins with 610 ft-lb of torque. I know you can only get them 2000.4 and later but how do you tell if the Cummins is the high output 610 ft-lb?

A: Look at the engine tag located on the valve cover on the drivers side. The engines ratings will be on there.
Basically 2005 and up is the 610 although you may find a few 2005's with a 600 ftlb rating.
Will you be able to tell the difference in 10 ftlb? No.
There was a very slight programming change to get the 10 ftlb in 2005 to one up Chevy when they released the Duramax with 605 ftlb. Its all a marketing cat and mouse game. People buying because of that extra 5 or 10 ftlb. Its not a big enough difference to ever notice.
The 2004.5 was also rated at 325hp and 600 ftlb as well.
So in essence:
2004.5 through 2005 = 325hp 600 ftlb
Sometime in 2005 the rating was bumped up to 325hp 610 ftlb and has remained at this level through 2007 for the 5.9 Cummins. (answered by David B on January 10, 2008)
