The car had some rigidity issues which were tackled by the Ferrari engineers by strengthening the body in key locations. Drawn by Pininfarina, the car was thought to hold classic beauty and sporty aggression at the same time.
Q:
A: First of all, it is a Ferrari, as you can tell by its name.
V8, 395 horsepower, and only 275lb. of torque.
Not the best Ferrari made, but since it was only made during 1999-2004, the Ferrari F430 is now it's bigger brother, and that Ferrari 430, is a beast. Hope this helps! (answered by V10 M6 on October 23, 2007)
Q:
A: Ferrari ownship is expensive! How much will depend alot on how much you drive. Though driving more can actually be good for the car once it's up to temperature (as with many performance cars, they are designed to be driven, and many of the parts get their lubrication as a result of getting up to operating temperature and running). But while regular driving can help in longer term reliability, it will cost more in maintenance, and ultimately in resale value (as these cars are generally expected to have low annual milage).
But how much? A basic oil service will generally cost around $1200-1500. For most people, this will be an annual service, with more only needing to be considered if you are driving more than 10k or so each year. If you look at additional services needed around the 5 year mark or so, and average it out, you are looking at a total maintenance cost around $2-2.5k.
If you have not owned a high end performance car before, it's probably also important to mention tire costs. High performance tires are designed for performance, which will come at the cost of longevity. These will most likely need to be replaced every 2-3 years, adding about $1k more to the annual average. Q:
A: In 2011, the 1999 360 Modena will be an 11 year old car... looking historically, an 11 year old V8 Ferrari will still command about 65-70% of it's original purchase price.
Given a steady rate of inflation (which might be extremely optimistic given the recent morgage crisis), you could likely expect the Modena Berlinetta to command $90-100k.
However, it should be pointed out, that while the price to purchase an older Ferrari can make them attractive, the cost of ownership on the old car will be every bit as high as the new... even on an nearly 40 year old 308, you could expect the annual operating cost to a few thousand dollars. And items such as insurance add quite a bit more.
Definitely worth dreaming about (they are fanastic cars), but if you really want one, invest some of your savings in some books about money and investing and how to develop a positive cash flow that would allow you to afford such an item. (answered by Paul S on November 29, 2007)
