Almost 20 million Lada Rivas, a boxy saloon based on a 1960s Fiat 124, were built and 60 per cent were sold abroad. However improbable it may sound, these Russian saloons served as taxis in Trinidad and police cars in Peru. Their main selling point was

A: They never made an 87 Spider. Fiat production stopped with the 82 model year. Pinninfarina continued production for a few years more, but that was it.
I assume it was a 1977 since it was a 124? Anyways parts are pretty easy to get, but finding a mechanic that can service it is not. Most owners tend to do their own work, but really great mechanics who cater to classics are around, but hard to find. If you really don't feel like messing with a sometimes temper mental car or getting your hands dirty get a Miata. Owning a Fiat is very satisfying though. This is 20 years of experience speaking. Never broke down once(where I couldn't get it home) in daily driving. I wont do that any more though being that these cars are getting rare. Now, I just restore them and play with them on sunny days. That's why I suggest a Miata.
