The 2101 was based on the Fiat 124. The model code today is 2107, but Lada calls it simply the Classic and the car is substantially unchanged from the 2101. The first Classic, then called the 2101, rolled off the line on April 22, 1970, when Russia's biggest automaker, AvtoVAZ, opened a car factory in Togliatti, 620 miles southeast of Moscow. -- About two out of every three Ladas produced were Classic models. Q:

How reliable and fixable is a 1987 Fiat 124 Spider?

I'm looking to buy a used car and am not a car savvy person so any information would be great.

A: They never made an 87 Spider. Fiat production stopped with the 82 model year. Pinninfarina continued production for a few years more, but that was it.
I assume it was a 1977 since it was a 124? Anyways parts are pretty easy to get, but finding a mechanic that can service it is not. Most owners tend to do their own work, but really great mechanics who cater to classics are around, but hard to find. If you really don't feel like messing with a sometimes temper mental car or getting your hands dirty get a Miata. Owning a Fiat is very satisfying though. This is 20 years of experience speaking. Never broke down once(where I couldn't get it home) in daily driving. I wont do that any more though being that these cars are getting rare. Now, I just restore them and play with them on sunny days. That's why I suggest a Miata.

A: I have a book for a 69-72 ,124 sport coupe.it shows 3 marks on the front engine cover and a mark on the crank pulley.I don't think these 2 engines are much different.maybe you have to clean it off more to see them.good luck (answered by ray k on March 04, 2008)
