Mine sported a bright red plastic dash plate, red, soft-touch fabric armrests and Ferrari-colored, two-tone fabric seats Here in America, the Mexican-made 2012 version of the 500 will appeal to those who see a Smart Car as a nice idea but are looking for something which might actually be driven on the highway. Those with a forward-looking eye for design, plus a desire for the frugality of up to 38 mpg highway. The tiny, egg-shaped Fiat, about the same size as a Mini Cooper, debuted in 2007 in Europe and has sold more than a half-million units since then. In that European context — painfully expensive gasoline, overcrowded ancient cities and a lack of interstate driving — the 500 makes perfect sense, especially as it's actually twice as large as the 1950s model it replaced. Design is certainly Ital-o-rific and fresh despite being about four years old, a primary color festival inside and out.
Q:
A: Locksmith is your only option. (answered by Hillbilly Locksmith on September 12, 2009)
Q:
A: NO, you can't do it. Or at least you can't do it *EASILY*
The spider didn't come with an automatic, so there is nothing that will readily swap in as a replacement.
The simplest thing I could think of, which sounds also a bit silly but here it is, is to get both 4 cylinder engine + automatic transmission from a Ford Pinto or Mustang from prior to 1985 and then swap that for the Fiat motor and transmission. This means making new engine mounts and a custom drive-shaft. And if you want to use stuff newer than 1985 it is probably fuel injected and computer controlled and you would need to also transplant the computer control to pass emissions. When you change engines, the car must pass emissions for the year of the motor, not for 1979 the year of the car.
This would probably cost around $3000-$5000. For all the trouble maybe it wouldn't be that much more trouble to drop in a small block chevy 350, though fitting a V-8 probably requires more modification to the inner front fenders and front suspension to ensure clearance.
I googled for "Fiat Spyder V8" and found this example...

And well Ok all that is cool, but I did find that I'm lying and there is actually a Fiat Automatic available for a little over $1000...

Q:
A: i hate to burst your bubble but if your parents dont think your responsible enough to have it then you have to go back in time and figure out why. what did you do for them to think this. once you figure that out you just might be able to convince them. maybe its a money issue with insurance do you pay it or do they. any way look at the bright side in two years you can buy what you want (answered by on August 09, 2009)
