Fiat X 1/9 in der Service-Station Akte X - ein Mittelmotor-Fiat lebt auf

A: The X1/9 ended production in 1990, so perhaps CB means an '84.

Anyway the 1300cc engines made 75hp and the 1500cc 85hp. The US only got the 1500cc engines. The X1/9, though small, comes it at a bit of a heafty 2,300 lbs giving a wieght-to-hp ratio of 27:1.

A Triumph Spitfire MkIII has a 1300cc engine making 75hp and a weight-to-hp ratio of around 26.5:1. The Spitfire was good for 0-60 of 12.5 seconds and toped out at 90mph.

I would say that the 0-60 times would be similar but the extra 10 ponies would give a little higher top end, as reported by CB.

For comparision a new base model Chyrsler PT Cruiser, with an automatic transmission - a car by no means capable of "spirited driving" - has a weight-to-hp ratio of 21:1.

Sadly your X1/9 is not going to be winning any drag races but should be an absolute blast in the twisties. Good luck. (answered by Chad D on February 05, 1441)

A: I owned a 1994 X1/9 years ago. It was bone stock and, on the floor and a flat road, it would go 97.
It really was a piece of $hit car, but a TON of fun and you never lost it in a parking lot! PS -- beware of third gear syncro going bad. They are as strong as a frozen payday bar. (answered by CowboyBill on February 05, 9961)

Q:

Fiat Punto X reg Mk2, 16v or 8v? How do i tell which one it is?

I have a Fiat Punto Mk2, it is an X reg (2000) model. It is a 1.2 engine but i don't know if it is 8v or 16v. I have opened the bonnet and checked all around, i have gone through the log book and all the paper work that i have but still can't find out.

Can anyone help please? Thanks.

A: Roary69 *The original one*, your answer is not fool proof. I have a 16v Mazda 323 1.6 SOHC, so only one cam cover.

However, the 1.2 16V Punto is a DOHC engine, so it should have two cam covers or a single large one to cover both. Look at the spark plugs, the things with thick black cables going to them. If the are in the centre, it's a DOHC engine. On a single cam engine, the plugs will typically be in front of the cam cover.

Typical twin cam cover here, oil filler is at top right and you can see the four holes in the centre where the spark plugs go:

Single cam, plug holes at front, note the single camshaft sprocket on right:

Here, note again the width of the twin cam cover, also the black plastic cover in front of oil cap, this covers the cam belt. Due to there being two cam sprockets, its quite wide. A single cam engine would have a much narrower cover as it only covers one sprocket.

The 16V 1.2 Punto has hydraulic valves, the 8V doesn't, so if there is a label/sticker saying hydraulic valves, you know what you have.

Where can I get a gas tank for a fiat bertone x 1/9?

A: You must have the only one that hasn't rusted to pieces. Your best bet is the scrap yard. (answered by Henry on October 06, 2008)
