Q:

Could a Hayabusa motor (1300cc) fit in a Fiat x1/9 without any body/frame modifications, besides motor mounts?

I was wondering if a Hayabusa 1300 cc motor could fit in a Fiat X1/9? I was wanting to make this a project. I figured I'd need to get custom motor mounts, but I was curious if this could be done

Anyone with X1/9 knowledge, I plan on taking out the rear luggage compartment, making it and the original engine compartment into one bigger engine compartment.
(asked by carter j on October 29, 2008)

A: It's been done with Minis and Smart cars, so why not an X1/9...

You'll have to retain the bike's transmission since it forms a single block with the motor, and you'll need to come-up with some kind of reverse gear arrangement. You will also have to find a way to make the bike's single output sprocket shaft power a differential.

Sounds like an interesting project, but you do have your work cut out for you. (answered by Dani G on October 29, 2008)

A: Dimensionally this engine will fit but how do you get the power to the wheels. You will need to fabricate some kind of differential for this purpose since the Hayabusa transmission does not utilize one.. (answered by smartblond48 on October 29, 2008)

Q:

How do I fully restore/ fix up my Fiat X1/9?

All I need is a plan to fix up my Fiat, or how to do useful interior/ exterior fixing up, and engine fixing up.
(asked by Dukenukem on February 05, 8922)

A: Unless you have the needed skills most individuals that do car restoration work are really just project mangers.

They organize who and what , and leave the how to the experts.

Taking away the 'hands on' part of it is well worth the expense if you don't know exactly what you are doing.

The classifieds are full of partly restored horror cases gone wrong from the hands of well intentioned by no skilled people.

If you want to do the work yourself and are willing to learn , it pays NOT to take on a restoration as your first job.

Take on smaller jobs one at a time when they come up ,,eg , a brake job , replace the radiator or water pump , that sort of thing.

ONLY when you can complete these simple jobs without any screw-ups would you consider a restoration type of project., and even then , it would be a minor one.

Remember , to be a one man restorer takes years and years of work , practice and natural skill. as there are so many different fields to be tackled.
Bodywork , rust , paint , electrical ,engine , gearbox and drive train , and then interior.

Each field requires considerable experience to be able to complete the task to completion. (answered by Wise Old Man on August 25, 2008)
