2011 Ford Explorer Limited Road Test

Otherwise, the bold, round styling is purposeful and truly unlike any Explorer before it—the old models’ basic three box styling remained pretty much unchanged since its debut in 1991, up until the last generation that debuted in 2006. The goal here is for more comfort and ease-of-use around town, with the fully four-wheel-drive Haldex system on hand to retain the Explorer’s off-road abilities. Also new for 2011 (and, from an engineering standpoint at least, perhaps the most significant change) is the switch from truck-like body-on-frame construction to a unibody setup. I like the styling for the most part but certain areas do appear a little slabby and obtuse—the front fenders are especially guilty of this.

Q:

where is the tran fluid dipstick located on a 2006 ford explorer?

I work for a security team at the local mall. We have a 2006 Ford Explorer that we use for vehicle patrol. Every morning we go out and do vehicle inspections however we have never been able to find the dipstick to check the transmission fluid. We've looked all over the engine trying to find the stick. I'm wondering if anyone knows where its at on this car. Help would would be great.
(asked by sportsallstar812 on April 25, 2008)

A: According to page 312 of your digital owners manual ( http://www.motorcraftservice.com/pubs/co ntent/~WO6EXP/~MUS~LEN/41/06expog2e.pdf ) there isn't one.

TRANSMISSION FLUID
Checking automatic transmission fluid
The automatic transmission does not have an underhood transmission
fluid dipstick.
Refer to your scheduled maintenance information for scheduled
intervals for fluid checks and changes. Your transmission does not
consume fluid. However, the fluid level should be checked if the
transmission is not working properly, (i.e., if the transmission slips or
shifts slowly) or if you notice some sign of fluid leakage.
Transmission fluid should be checked and, if required, fluid
should be added by an authorized dealer.
Do not use supplemental transmission fluid additives, treatments or
cleaning agents. The use of these materials may affect transmission
operation and result in damage to internal transmission components.

A: Is is automatic or manual shift? Manual shift transmissions wont have a dipstick. If its automatic, generally, it will be located close to the firewall on the passenger side but I would look at both sides just in case. I have an '03 Nissan and it took me a while to find it. It was located on the passenger side close to the firewall. GM also locates it in the same general vicinity. Good Luck!! (answered by OldMan on April 25, 2008)

Q:

Will the keyless entry fobs for a 2006 Ford Explorer, work for a 2008 Ford Expedition if properly programmed?

We had a 2006 Ford Explorer with keyless entry, we are getting a 2008 Ford Expedition. We have several key fobs and would like to know if they will work with the Expedition.
(asked by epd836 on August 28, 2008)

A: According to the Ford chart your key FOBs should work with the Expedition, they will just need to be programmed to the vehicle. (answered by bikertrash on August 29, 2008)

A: as long as the frequency is the same than it can be programed to work. (answered by superzuki89 on August 28, 2008)

Q:

Where can you buy a pinstripe kit to repair pinstripes on a 2006 Ford Explorer Eddie Bauer?

The pinstripes on my 2006 Ford Explorer Eddie Bauer were recently damaged after going through a car wash. My Explorer is burgundy with gold/tan pinstripes. Looking to just repair that sections that were damaged,
(asked by holli08 on November 21, 2009)

A: I'd try Auto Zone first, if they can order that, or an auto body shop. If the clear coat is too thin on that one section, it is likely to be thin on other parts of the pin stripe. The next car wash may take off more. (answered by L L ツ on November 21, 2009)
