Hi 4x4 AnswerMan,. LAUNDRY LIST 4X4. You can get gear sets from guys like Motive Gear and Yukon. 5" and it can also be set at 6". I own an 87 Ford Ranger. 5" the top of the tires bow out and in at the bottom, which tears the side of tread and at 6" it does the opposite. Its set at 4. I was curious if there's an easy fix or should I drill a new hole at 5.
Q:
A: Some Fords have an actuator on the side of the transfer case. I you have buttons on the dashboard it'll have an actuator. If you have a shift lever on the floorboard you do not have the actuator.
Anyhow, these actuators go bad all the time. You can even get them at a regular parts store. Save the old one, they'll want the core. To test this: Raise ALL the wheels off the ground. Remove the actuator but don't unplug the wire harness. Have someone run the truck in 2wd &, using a crescent wrench, operate the transfer case by shifting the rod that the actuator goes onto. See if the front wheels start to turn. (Keep in mind that the front wheels may turn in 2wd due to the coeffecient factor) Anyhow, if the front wheels do turn with sufficient force, replace the actuator. BTW: Changing the fluid in the TC won't fix anything - it's just for maintenance. And watch out for those that have enough knowledge to be dangerous. (answered by gnawgnaw33 on January 05, 2009)
Q:
A: I'm not a loan officer, but if you plan on buying this truck for the $20,000 to $25,000 price tag, and want your payments about $200 a month with so-so credit your going to need to put at least $10,000 or more down. You can call a car dealer and get a better quote. (answered by Green Thumb on March 12, 2009)
A: I am not a ford owner but you also need to take into account that if you buy a new car you also need to have full coverage on your car until it is paid off, new vehicles also have higher insurance rates because they are worth a lot of money. I would say your $200 won't cut it. I am on a 6 year loan for $6,250 total and I am paying $140 a month for the payment. (answered by Don't Blame me on March 12, 2009)Q:
