You Ask We Answer

Q:

i have a 1990 gmc sierra 4x4 truck and im not getting a spark from the coil to the distributor cap& wont start?

i bought new coil and distribtor cap and button new plugs and plug wires but i am getting fuel to it, but no spark and now it wont start at all. can someone tell me what the problem is?
(asked by spitfire39p on January 26, 2009)

A: 1st--you must check the plug wires that you installed as being placed correctly.
2nd--you must check the wires you plugged into the distributor. Make sure they are in all the way. I say these first two because you posted, "..now it wont start at all." This suggests it ran before repairs.
3nd--you must determine if it has current going to the coil. If it does the the problem is probably the module under the distributor. There seems to be a lot of postings with potential module problems this week.
It is under the cap and heat usually does it in. It uses a dielectric compound between the module and distributor to dissipate heat which is important.
that should be a good start. (answered by Jen on January 26, 2009)

Q:

1977 gmc truck 4x4,front end shakes when braking?

Happens only while braking, did replace steering cylinder/stabilizer.Would bad tie rods cause the same type of problem?
(asked by texmex on November 08, 2007)

A: get your brake rotors resurfaced, there warped. (answered by mister ss on November 09, 2007)

A: Warped front brake rotors is the most typical cause. The wheel lug nuts must be torqued uniformly to specification using a torque wrench after the rotors are machined true. (answered by bobweb on November 08, 2007)

Q:

I have an 07 GMC truck 4x4, with a clunking noise..?

going into 3rd gear. The dealer said this is normal for 4x4's due to slack designed into the transfer case. I'm not buying it!
I have ridden in 4 different trucks with the same 4.8 engine and trans. that made no noise whatsoever! Anyone else heard of this?
(asked by Corky Dog on October 06, 2007)

A: Sounds fishy to me. Take it to another dealer, and you can also call GM Customer care if you experience problems with the dealer. Keep your visits to the dealer well documented and when they tell you nothing is wrong INSIST that they do so in writing. If you ever have a very costly failure related to this problem then you will have it documented when you threaten to sue them for the repair and/or replacement costs.

Good luck! (answered by blueman on October 06, 2007)
