A: You should be good to 100k but no further. It is a couple hundred to replace, but if it breaks then your talking BUKU BUCKS. It will bring down a world of hurt on your engine. Trust me. (answered by jtown1978 on March 06, 2008)

How to evaluate an automatic transmission when buying a car? (Honda 2000 Accord V6)?
I bought a 2000 Honda Accord V6, automatic, with 72K miles. The car was inspected by a general mechanic (results good), and has never had any problems.
However, this model is known to have transmission problems; there was a major lawsuit Honda settled. I have about one year of warranty, and I want to make sure that, if there is a potential problem at all I get it fixed before the warranty expires.
Is there a way to test for "early warning signs?" I have driven manual transmission cars all my life so I don't know what to look or listen for. Thanks in advance for your answers. (asked by JudgmentProof on April 13, 2007)
A: Best bet is a certified transmission shop that you know to be reputable! There are some field test like holding the brake pedal firmly, putting the vehicle in gear and stepping on the accelerator and see if it wants to jump ahead or back. If it does nothing it is more than likely slipping. Also, check the fluid and make sure it is nice and pink, not brown. Feel it between your fingers and if it has a gritty feeling, it has metal within the fluid which is a sure sign of future problems.
