Q:

1997 Honda Accord coupe steering making grinding noises when I turn the wheel?

I have a 1997 Honda Accord coupe, and when I turn the wheel it makes grinding noises when I almost hit the lock (end) of how far I can turn (example is making a u-turn). No problems turning the wheel, and the power steering fluid reserve is full.
(asked by cubensis2k on February 11, 2421)

A: if the noise happens when the car is moving then you're hitting theh wheel stop that prevent the wheel from rotating around. typically the wheel stop looks like the back of a cupped hand and its located on the lower control arm that comes off the strut. smear some grease on it and that will probably eliminate the noise.

on some cars the noise is from the strut bearing on top. the strut bearing is located on the top of the strut tower. You can hear that noise if you stand on the side of the car with the hood open and then have someone turn the wheel until the noise comes in. the car doesn't need to be moving to hear a bad strut bearing.

lastly, check the belt tension for the power steering belt as the belt may be slipping under the load of a full turn

hope that helps (answered by honda guy on February 11, 2899)

Q:

How much does a new starter cost for a 98 honda accord coupe?

Hey, i have a Honda Accord Coupe 1998. I need to replace my starter but the guy hasn't called back with an estimate yet and i'm trying to see the range of price i'm looking at, any help? Thanks.
(asked by julius'mama on July 01, 2008)

A: See if you can get someone to do it and buy one from Autozone (answered by RNuts on July 01, 2008)

A: 4 cylinder or V6 engine? Automatic or manual transmission? Each engine has a different starter, and chances are that the manual transmission uses a different one than an automatic, that's how most cars are.

Check www.advanceautoparts.com for the price of the new starter and add about $150-200 for labor. That's assuming it's a 2-3 hour job, at $65 per hour for labor. It'll probably be less, but it's better to be safe than sorry.

When I got my blazer's starter replaced, my mechanic showed me why it took two hours instead of one. Since mine was a 4x4, the front drivetrain made it more difficult and time-consuming to get to the starter. (answered by Travis S on July 01, 2008)
