Given a "typical U. S. diet," you would have to ride your bike instead of driving for around 400 miles to cover the bike's initial carbon footprint. Shreya Dave, a graduate student at MIT, recently estimated that manufacturing an average bicycle results in the emission of approximately 530 pounds of greenhouse gases (PDF). Umbra Fisk, a research associate at Grist, came up with a total carbon footprint of one ton of So that's the goal: To trim about 530 pounds of CO2 emissions from your commute. It's tough to say exactly how much greenhouse gas making a bicycle requires, since none of the major manufacturers has released data on their energy consumption. The EPA just released a report saying the Hummer H2 is the fifth most poluting car on the road. If you look at all of the emissions that are given off in manufactureing. The more enviormentally friendly car is the H2 campaired to the hybrids. The EPA people need to look more at cars and manufactureing before just looking at the end product. A: I referenced the below source site before purchasing our Hummer (H3). At first, I was under the impression that the Hummers would have the worst pollution ratings. I was suprised to find out that the H3 and the Tahoe, both 2008 models with 4WD, carry virtually the same ratings. The gas mileage is 1 mile difference, as well as pollution scores run neck and neck. Feel free to compare both vehicles, as well as many other SUVS and cars, side by side at the source listed below.
I understand this question references the H2, however I could not find information on it. It kind of angers me that the Hummer brand is given such a negative view when there are 100 times more Tahoes/Suburbans out there on the road producing nearly the same emissions. Why do they not get that bad rap? I completely understand that there are more environmentally friendy vehicles out there. We own one in addition to our H3.

A: eh... it depends on how long you drive it too. If you drive a Hummer for 150,000 miles in its lifetime, that's a lot of pollution (answered by Constitutionalism on July 11, 2008)
