(asked by beast23 on July 28, 2007)

A: Sorry, but it ain't gonna happen. AM General does not allow the sale of "surplus" HumVees to civilains. They don't even supply parts, or maintenance support for them. See my sources website for detsils. (answered by Kiffin # 1 on July 28, 2007)

Q:

Since Hummer was sold to China, what does this mean for military hummers?

Will we continue to use new military hummers even though we'll have to buy them from china?
So let me get this straight, civilian hummers will be made by China and military hummers will still be made by General Motors here in America?
(asked by mikenike1244 on October 10, 2009)

A: Military HMMWVs have NEVER been made by the former GM subsidiary commercial Hummer brand (the naming rights of which were purchased from the real HMMWV manufacturer AM General)

Edit: You still don't have it straight. GM/Hummer/China has NOTHING to do with military HMMWVs (or Hum-Vs, we rarely call our vehicles HUmmers). AM General is not a part of GM. AM General DID manufacture H1s and H2s for GM though.

Edit: And just for the record, Humvees don't suck. They were a brilliant design and do what they were designed to do magnificently. It was our lack of imagination for future warfare and the haphazard way we tried to rectify that which lead to the Humvee getting a "sucky" reputation. (answered by Ray on October 10, 2009)

A: More preventable US deaths caused by poor equipment installed on the hummers. (answered by Kenneth on October 10, 2009)

Q:

Does anybody know where I can buy a Military issue Hummer?

I really want a real Hummer, not an H2 or H3. I would rather the Military issue HMMVW, not the Civilian H1. Does anybody know where to get one?
(asked by atvman_400 on May 21, 2008)

A: You can't. Those items made for the military are used for the military and cannot be made available to the public.

DRMS processes property no longer required for use by the Military Services. Some of this property was designed strictly for military purposes such as weapon systems and their related components and can not be released to the general public. Items specifically designed for Military use must be destroyed or have key components removed and destroyed (demilitarized) prior to release from the Government’s control. Once destruction is accomplished the remaining residue is sold as scrap. (answered by geglefty on May 21, 2008)
