BISHOP Auckland rally driver Tristan Pye emerged with a creditable class victory on his way to fourth place overall on last Saturday’s Grizedale Stages Rally, based in the Lake District village of Coniston.

Driving the Proflex-sponsored John Pye Motorsport Subaru Impreza, with Channel Islander Stewart Merry on the notes, the pair held fifth place after the two opening tests in Grizedale South and North.

With conditions changing between bright sunshine and then swirling fog and torrential rain, Pye chased down the leaders on the next two stages in Dunnerdale to hold a solid 23- second advantage over the fifthplaced crew going into the last two stages.

A good clean run saw them report no problems and, with a problem besetting the Hyundai Accent WRC of Stephen Petch and Ian Windress on the very last stage, Pye was there to claim fourth position overall and with it was best of the Group N cars.
