You Ask We Answer

Q:

Does the Hyundai Elantra 2009 use a timing belt or chain?

I've considered other cars but have set my sights on the Hyundai Elantra 2009 car since it fits my budget compared to the Corolla and the Civic. I've tried looking up the answer but could not find it. Does anyone know if it uses a timing belt or a timing chain? Would you happen to know if it is expensive to maintain a Hyundai compared to Honda and Toyota? If the maintenance cost is too high it might make me reconsider and shell out the extra 3-5k for the Corolla/Civic. Thanks in advance!

A: its a timing belt and should be changed at 90k miles. (answered by Jeff on February 11, 6384)

Q:

How reliable is a 2009 Hyundai Elantra?

How many miles do you think I can expect to put on it before it breaks down? I had a 2004 Hyundai Sonata and drove it for 150,000 miles without one single repair, but that was a 6 cylinder car. Do you think I can expect the same results with the 4 cylinder Elantra? We really need a new car that can make it 5 years and 160,000 miles without breaking down and is fairly inexpensive. The Honda Civic sounds better but it seems pricier. What do you think?

HYUNDAI FINISHES FIRST IN JD POWERS INITIAL QUALITY SURVEY (non-luxury)

AHEAD OF TOYOTA! …… AHEAD OF HONDA! …….AHEAD OF NISSAN!

AHEAD OF ALL OTHER NON LUXURY or PREMIUM MANUFACTURERS

This is Great News!!! See Below!

FROM THE DESK OF JOHN (Last name removed)…

Hyundai has once again accomplished an outstanding quality achievement, with the J.D. Power and Associates Initial Quality Survey (IQS3) naming Hyundai the Number One Non-Premium auto maker for quality. We finished ahead of Toyota, Honda and Nissan, first among non-premium nameplates and fourth overall behind only Lexus, Porsche and Cadillac.

*Hyundai #1 Non-Premium Nameplate, beating Toyota, Honda, Nissan, and all the rest of our competition

*Hyundai #4 in Industry, behind only Lexus, Porsche, and Cadillac

*Genesis #1 “All New/Re-Designed Model,” and ties the Lexus brand

*Elantra #1 in the Compact Car Segment, beating Prius, Civic, and Corolla

*Elantra is also a “Top 10 Industry Leading Model” (out of 245 models)

*Accent #2 in the Sub-Compact Car Segment, (missing #1 by just one point)

This is the second time in four years that Hyundai has beaten all other non-premium nameplates. We’re planning a very aggressive public relations and marketing program to get this powerful quality message out to consumers and drive new Hyundai customers to our showrooms.

So, with all that said don't believe the naysayers who still think Hyundai is a 2nd class auto. (answered by Boatin' in VA! on June 24, 2009)

A: Should be pretty reliable if you do the maintenance on it on a consistent basis like oil change, air filter change, etc. You start running into trouble if you don't do any preventive maintenance. (answered by phosizzle on June 22, 2009)

Q:

How can I listen to my iPod in a 2009 Hyundai Elantra?

I must be doing something wrong. I try to use my iPod through the USB port, but it's impossible to pick which song I want to listen to, it's like on random all the time. There's no way Hyundai would make such a lame design. Does anyone know how to do it properly?
(asked by lollocoptor on August 13, 2009)

A: i have a 2009 hyundai sonata limited.... mine does the same but my sister's works perfectly, it syncs. I was told by my sister that i needed to format the song files properly for the audio system to recongize what song is playing so it could display on the display area and put them in order again. OR you could by the $29,99 usb adapter they sell at the hyundai dealership :) good luck. (answered by on August 15, 2009)
