Hyundai to fix wandering Sonatas after Jalopnik report

Hyundai told us it would soon tell Sonata owners who complained of the problem to schedule a dealer visit for a new repair process that will include a realignment and possibly new struts. Starting today, Hyundai will begin notifying Sonata owners that a fix has been developed and a service campaign will begin shortly to improve the tracking of the affected vehicles. The problem had spurred 188 complaints to U. S. auto safety regulators and hundreds of complaints online, with many owners saying their Sonatas wandered to the left at highway speeds, despite repeated repair attempts by dealers. A small percentage (about three percent) of owners of 2011 Sonata vehicles manufactured between Sept. Customers who may have experienced this issue will be instructed to make an appointment at their local Hyundai dealer to have the service work completed at no charge.

Q:

Hyundai Sonata?

Does anyone have a 2007 Hyundai Sonata GLS? and not happy with it and why? Im trying to decide whether or not to make this purchase and i have to buy it tommorow if i want to get it for $15,100. Is that a good price? HELP!!!!
(asked by Leah Z on May 31, 2007)

A: I have a 2006 Sonata GLS V6. Excellent handling and power. Transmission is tuned for smoothness rather than super-brisk shifting. 34 miles per gallon on highway (with a HUGE car!!!), but only about 18-20 miles per gallon in the city with medium traffic intensity.

I joke that this would be the ultimate car for a travelling salesman, but I guess that would make it good for anyone going on road trips all the time. Everything is lined with upholstery, unlike in Camry and Accord. The glove box has dampening so it feels quality and is lined. The trunk is fully-lined, but is not lined on Honda Accord. Go look at one and notice the light inside the glovebox and really look at how it's put together and then you'll know how fanatical these guys must have been. Rear armrest is good too. Back seat to die for, and the car seems like a luxury car if you're riding in the back seat -- the same can't be said for Camry or Accord. And while the Camry and Accord have better recognition, it's nice to have a sleeper. The Sonata V6 is faster than the BMW 530i, yet cost $20,000+ less.

I'd probably get the I4 though this time around for gas mileage's sake. I'd rather get 24-26 consistently than 20-22 and have more power...but that's me.

THE ONLY THING I HATE ABOUT THIS CAR IS THAT YOU CANNOT PLUG YOUR IPOD INTO THE STEREO AND IT IS REALLY HARD TO CHANGE THE DECK OUT. The car does come with XM satellite radio standard though.

ALSO, don't forget - all the safety stuff is FREE on the Hyundai. The same can't be said for everyone in the segment, nor for the 100,000 mile warranty.

Don't forget that Hyundai has #2 owner return rate second only to Mercedes-Benz. I am in a business dealing with a lot of rich people, and the frugal ones snatch up Sonatas and Hyundais in general like it is their dirty little secret. lol, if you get one you'll know what I mean. Once you own one you're convinced it is not even comparable to Honda Accord or Toyota Camry, this is a car to be compared with cars that don't exist. Why? There really isn't another pseudo-luxury-economy/value-sporty car on the market, period. (answered by Paolo C on May 31, 2007)

A: Do some more research.
Tomorrow only 15,100, is a high pressure tactic often used by salespersons....although there are sometimes legit factory
incentives that end. (answered by karl on May 31, 2007)

Q:

How can I find out how much a hyundai sonata/elantra price will decrease by the middle of next year?

I want a 2006 hyundai sonata or elantra. I was just wondering what would be the average price of the car next year. I plan to purchase it mid may or july.
(asked by Chocolate Kiss on October 03, 2008)

A: well i think it will depend on the global industry as you can recall usa is having a economy crisis so that mean it could be a factor of having more or let me say higher price in all kinds of products,

Q:

How do I replace my 2002 Hyundai Sonata shift lever?

I have a 2002 Hyundai Sonata GLS 2.7L. I started to unscrew the shift knob, but it won't come off and now I can't tighten it. I just spins around freely now. Any suggestions on how to tighten it or take it off. Thank you in advance!

A: Check with the dealer (you may need a Vehicle Mechanic) (answered by solvent on February 19, 2009)
