Q&A: Hyundai Preps Veloster Launch; Tiburon, It's Not

Hyundai, whose Tiburon coupe filled that role until it was discontinued in 2008, will position the new Veloster coupe as the Gen Y personality car when it goes on sale next month. Actually, the car is only half a coupe, as it has three doors rather than just two and an unusual interior capacity for vehicles usually associated with the two-door world. Nowadays, for automakers to have the certain youthful je ne sais quoi they have to have a car that can legitimately show up at hipster parties, even if younger buyers aren't actually the ones who end up buying them.

A: Go to edmunds.com or kbb.com and find out the dealer's invoice price with all the options you've selected and any applicable rebates. I think they have a $500 rebate right now. So try to shoot for the car at invoice price -$500.

Do not be afraid to walk out. If they want the sell they will call you back or not let you leave in the first place. Do not go early in the day or they might try to wear you down over several hours. Go to the showroom about one hour near their closing time and see how long they want to stay at work after hours trying to wear you out.

Can you get financing ahead of time. Check the local bank/credit union rates and try to have financing in hand when you show up. Otherwise that "great deal" will be consumed on the financing end with a poor interest rate. (answered by JB on February 11, 5632)

Q:

Does anyone know how much it costs and what you have to do to put a Supercharger into a 2008 Hyundai Tiburon?

I have a 2008 Hyundai Tiburon and I want to put a supercharger in it. It's a 4 cylinder, 135hp. What would I have to do to my car and how much would it cost?
(asked by Gooberman540 on May 13, 2009)

A: your first mistake is putting a supercharger in that car. Trust me you will be very dissapointed after it's installed, my buddy has one with the v6 engine and its supercharged. I kid you not, my 4.7 dodge ram 1500 will beat him from a roll and a dig. If you want to put a major upgrade on that car then put a turbo. I wouldn't recommend putting any type of mod like that on that car. It requires too much work to make those fast... I'm not trying to bash your car or anything, I'm just trying to help you out and hopefully let you save a few thousand dollars (answered by SURFsmallWaves on May 13, 2009)
