You Ask We Answer

Q:

Can I add a turbo to my 2001 infiniti g20 manual ? Is it worth it?

How much would something like this cost and where can I do it. I live in NYC area. By how much can I increase the car's horsepower?
(asked by berney on May 15, 2008)

A: First thing first, if your catalytic converter is right against your exhaust manifold. Then you will have to remove it. Depending on state laws and inspection you will have to buy a straight catalytic converter (a high flow) and weld it underneath. Make sure it is CARB and EPA compliant, so you can pass emissions.

As long as I got the details right:

2001 Infiniti G20
Stock 140-145 crank horsepower engine
2 liters 4 in-line engine
9.5 compression ratio
FWD
Manual
I think it might have a factory LSD

Parts:
maybe new Fuel Injectors for higher flow
New exhaust manifold to bolt up turbo
the Turbo itself
custom downpipe from turbo to exhaust
catalytic converter (hi-flow)
New custom intake pipe with filter
Piggyback fuel and ignition controller
Boost gauge
A/F gauge
Intercooler is good, but you get away without one
Most likely need a New clutch to handle extra power
New exhaust will help it flow better to give extra power.

If your cooling system can handle the extra heat and the engine itself is in good shape then depending on your turbo setup you could maybe (always check) go to 8psi which will give you about 80hp extra, for a total of 225hp at crank.

This can cost anywhere from $5k to $7k depending on rates and parts bought, plus labor.

Q:

About Turbo Charging an Infiniti G20?

I own an Infiniti G20. I would like to turbo charge it with the stock turbo from the Nissan SX (I believe that's the model). My question is does anyone know if the gaskets for the G20 and the gaskets for the Nissan SX are the same? I'd really like to save myself the trouble of taking apart the engine. Thanks.
(asked by Michael Brannon on September 23, 2008)

A: Why bother? The G20 is a front wheel drive car; why go through the time and the trouble to still suffer from understeer and torque steer, albeit with a souped up engine. Unless you plan on doing some rad tray-slide drifting in some parking lot, I can't see the purpose in juicing up a FF layout car. (answered by thebourne_id on February 11, 3)

A: dont do it the block won't be able to handle it. (answered by Pancho on September 24, 2008)

Q:

2002 Infiniti G20 Sport Auto TURBO??

So this is my question I have a 2002 Infiniti G20 Sport with an automatic Tranny I want to Turbo Charge it can anyone tell me EVERYTHING i WOULD NEED for this project???
(asked by Henry on April 04, 2008)

A: Don't do it because the AT won't be able to handle the increased torque and horsepower. (answered by Henry on April 04, 2008)
