Isuzu Trooper?

Does anyone know if the Isuzu Trooper is a good suv? I am looking at one to buy. Thanks for any help

A: I own a shop, and see what we work on, and what we don't work on. About the "only" thing I can say good about the Isuzu Trooper is; they are cheap on fuel. If it was up to me, I would run the other direction as fast as I could go. We have customers who have had theirs in the shop 6-8 times in a years time. All you have to do is; go to the site listed below, and look for yourself at the complaints that have been issued on these vehicles. These speak for themselves.

A: Really tough but not fancy. If going for a diesel the 3.1 turbo is far better than the non turbo. Great towing capacity. Dunno where you are but they're very popular in Europe so parts are easy to pick up. If buying used check for wear and tear as many of these 4x4s have seen the rough end of a farm whcih is exactly what they should be doing obviously. Look for a service history too if possible. I've driven several manuals and they were excellent. (answered by John K on November 22, 2007)

Can a Chevy 350 engine be connected to an Isuzu Trooper Transmission and what is needed to do this?

I have an old trooper and I need to get it running again without using the injected isuzu motor. Can I do this? The tranny is the typical isuzu 2 wheel to 4 wheel transmission. Can anybody help me?

A: Hi, Pharm-do is correct except the engine is a 2.8 liter. For a damn good engine swap use a GM 4.3 liter V6 instead, everything is about the same and you get more ponies....... (answered by captronalli on February 09, 505)

A: It is very frustrating to see questions that don't state the year the Isuzu trooper is! Without it, answering can be difficult and inaccurate!

Around 1986, some of the Isuzus were equipped with the Chevy S10's base 2.6L engine, meaning GM's engines can mate to what came in those particular vehicles.

The second generation troopers are a mystery (post 1992 or so) to me, since they were working more closely with Honda, so I don't know if the engines were japanese-sourced, although Borg Warner seemed to be making the transmissions.

I don't know if you would want to try to squeeze the V8 into the bay, the transmission will likely not take the torque of even a stock unit, and you'll have issues with the cooling. The best bet is to source a decent 6 cylinder from a junkyard S10. I also don't know if you'll get by with the stock block mounting location if you go with the V8.

Or, if you can, get the engine and trans as a unit (with an ECM if you are going with a later model) from the Acura rebadged trooper, or S10.

Seems like you are in for a bit of fabrication if you are going to V8 that trooper! (answered by pharm_docs on February 09, 1993)

A: buy new ones lay new ones out pull one wire at time to replace do this way on every car made and will never have any problem they just twist and pull off.. really nothing special about how its done... other than they new and you do one wire at a time.. heres a link to tell you how but im sure you can find a video by typing
