2011 Jacksonville Jaguars Season Preview

Next play: a 14-yarder to Jennings, but a Jordan Black holding penalty brings it back. The risk Garrard took on third-and-eight was one he needed to force on first-and-10. On first-and-10, quarterback David Garrard drops back and dumps a pass to backup running back Rashad Jennings , who had come in for the injured star Maurice Jones-Drew (knee). The Colts lead the Jaguars by 10 with 1:42 remaining in a do-or-die bout for the A. F. C. South division title. Garrard finds Jennings again for six yards. On third-and-eight, he fires a 26-yard strike over the middle to wideout Jason Hill. First down. So, first-and-20. Except one problem.

You Ask We Answer

Q:

What's the difference between a black panther and a black jaguar?

Physical differences, i don't care much about were they live and such.
(asked by Livi on May 07, 2009)

A: A black panther is a melanistic leopard - that is, a leopard with an excess of the dark pigment melanin, resulting in an almost totally black coat (the markings will still show up against the background in certain lights). Melanism can also occur in jaguars, and some people refer to these black jaguars as panthers too, but this is not technically correct.

The jaguar (Panthera onca) is a different species to the leopard (Panthera pardus). Jaguars are the third largest cats in the world, after tigers and lions, and can weigh up to 350lb. They are stockier and more heavily-built than leopards, with a broader head and proportionally shorter legs and tail. In normally-coloured individuals, the background coat colour is deep yellow, patterned with large, blotchy rosettes. They are found in South and Central America.

Leopards are smaller, weighing up to 200lb, and have a narrower head and proportionally longer legs and tail. Normally-coloured leopards have a tawny background coat colour (often lighter than a jaguar's, though not always), with spots arranged in small rings. They are found in Asia and Africa.

A: Jaguar is heavier, They are also stockier built than a leopard. Additionally jaguars have a much broader forehead and wider jaw because they kill their prey differently than leopards. Unlike other big cats, jaguars kill prey by crushing the spinal column and must have a much stronger bite in order to do so. (answered by naz on May 07, 2009)

Q:

what is the difference between a black panther, a black jaguar and a black leopard?

They all look the same to me
yeh but are they the same animal?
(asked by Ross on May 09, 2009)

A: The difference is where they live. Panthers and Jaguars tend to live in dense forest, like tropical forests and stuff. Most leopards i know live in plains like the ones in Africa. Some are most suiting to stalking and pouncing while others are better suited to chasing and taking down their prey in a fight. (answered by JJ on May 09, 2009)

Q:

Is it possible to own a wild cat?If so how much would a bengal tiger or a Jaguar(black) is so,cost?

Money is no option i really want to dedicate my life to these animals... plz help url, link, anything : P
(asked by Shichiroji-dono on September 30, 2008)

A: Hi there... it is possible, but not advisable. The cost of the cat isn't the issue, rather it's the time and cost for their care which is quite exorbitant and not to mention more difficult than anyone realizes.

Please consider reading the following which outlays what it takes to take care of "any" exotic cat: http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index; _ylt=Ao966qF1k6VmFhd5foJyVJ_ty6IX;_ylv=3 ?qid=20070114205324AApR6pU

Here's an excerpt regarding this: ere you will find some guidelines to owning an exotic cat. Please don't be fooled into believing that it will be any less work that having children! It is not for everyone. Don't make the mistake of believing that if you can't endure for the lifetime of your cat, you will be able to place it at a zoo or a wildlife rescue. This misconception is what gets a lot of exotic animals euthanised immediately because they are very hard to place. Zoos are full to capacity and also have strict requirements on the animals that they acquire for studbook breeding purposes and AZA (American Zoos and Aquariums Association) regulations. Compounds like Wild About Cats, Big Cat Rescue have to rescue some, but there are simply not enough sanctuaries for them all. Therefore, taking into consideration that many people are determined to get a cat no matter what they are told, and that many people are capable of being responsible owners, we always advise on captive husbandry. We would rather that these people were educated properly on care and handling, rather than dictated to that what they are doing is wrong. This is for the sake of the cats that did not ask to be born into these situations. If after reading through this information you would like to know more about captive wild cat husbandry and whether or not it is for you.
