Q:
A: It depends on the tire size. If they look like rubber bands then more than likely the roads that you are driving on, railroads tracks, potholes, etc are the culprit. Are they stock rims, more than likely it will be the sidewall of the tires are not tall enough to give enough protection for the rims... BTW what are the tire size..I have 1 2004 Tahoe with 22's tire size is 305/30/22 low profiles but still enough protection to not damage the rims.
Hope it helps (answered by on August 09, 2009)

A: Hi, my wife drives a 02 s-type which is exactly the same as yours chassis wise. We wanted to put wheels on as well and wanted to go as big as we could. We tried all of our local tire shops and all got told the same thing that you can not fit a 22" wheel on the car. We ended up buying some 20" Koenigs from discount tire company. Now that I see the car come from the 16's to the 20's, I believe we were told the truth. The 20's are practically stuffed with a fairly low profile tire. The only way to see for sure is to find a "home owned" place and see if they have some 22's with a jag bolt pattern and try them with some paper thin tires. I dont think they will fit though. The 20's look nice though. They fill out the fenders nicely. Doesn't look cheesy at all. (answered by kevin on February 22, 2008)
A: You certainly could, but it would look retarded...not to mention the handling would turn to crap because the wheels would weigh a ton. The straight line speed would also suffer with that much extra un sprung weight. If that doesn't matter to you...go for it. Just don't expect a chick to ride in it for long....all she'll have to say about it is that your car makes her boobs hurt when you go over a crack in the road..lol. A: The only thing that 20 inch rims look good on is a 18 wheeled big truck that's hauling steaks to the local steak house !
I'll never understand what the big deal is on having "O"ring tires and big rims !
I'll take 14-16 inch rims and nice size sidewalls......thank you ! (answered by Friar Timothy on July 08, 2009)
