The Jaguar XKR Convertible is one of the few remaining 'soft top' convertibles, now that the trend is toward the retractable hard top -so score one point for Jaguar on tradition alone. The main difference from the XK to the XKR version is the Eaton twin vortex supercharger and dual intercoolers that extend the XKR power to new levels. While looks are one thing, backing up those looks with performance is a critical element to the Jaguar brand and the E-type roadster, in its heyday, was the leader of the pack. Jaguar still favours the supercharged route over turbocharging to give that low end grunt that makes the XKR leap off the line as if you're trying to outrun a hurricane. Q:
A: An original XK coupe '96-02 - 6.6 to 60mph, thats the 4.0L normally aspirated engine, limited to 155 MPH. The 4.2L normally aspirated brought in with the facelift in late '02 is 6.4 to 60mph also maxing out at 155, where it is limited. The brand new Jaguar XK coupe, '05 - onwards is 5.9 to 62mph (Measured to 62 equivalent to 100kph now).
If you mean XKR's, the supercharged ones, '98-02 4.0L 5.2 to 60mph, '02 4.2L is 5.1 to 60mph and the '05 - present is 4.9 to 62mph. (answered by Hen on September 18, 2008)
