Top 10 reasons why the 2012 Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT8 is a blessed thing - TFLcar.com July 18, 2011

Top 10 reasons why the 2012 Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT8 is a blessed thing Even the amusing original Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT8 made me question its relevance. I mean, this was an SUV that can't tow due to its center exiting, dual exhaust. It was a bit flexi on corners. It wasn't much more to me than a low SUV packing a V8 with

Review: Jeep Grand Cherokee - expressandstar.com July 16, 2011

So well done Jeep for going a bit further than that with your latest launch, the new Grand Cherokee. It might look rather a lot like the old one with a bit of added style sculpted into the sides, but a lot has been going on in places you don't often

Simple style and stunning ability - Manila Bulletin July 08, 2011

Simple style and stunning ability It should come as no surprise that the makers of the original Jeep (the GP by Willy's Overland) are also responsible for the first modern SUV, the Jeep Cherokee. The Cherokee, after all, was the first vehicle to combine car-like unibody construction

On the Road, and Out of the Red

In March 2010, Tammy Trahan’s 1993 Jeep Cherokee broke down on one of the New Hampshire back roads that made up her 90-mile daily commute. Despite the fact that she worked full time and had as many as four side jobs, she had no savings at all, and the latest breakdown meant she’d be late for work again. Because a bad divorce had left her with terrible credit, she’d paid such high interest rates that the car with a $9000 sticker price when she bought it seven years earlier ended up costing her $20,000 in payments. On that cold morning by the side of the road Trahan despaired: “I was afraid I’d be in the same rut forever. But the car was also dragging her down.

Q:

On a jeep cherokee, do all four wheels spin?

I know on some vehicles, only 3 wheels spin, even when it says AWD or 4x4. What about a 99 jeep cherokee?
(asked by McElroy on June 24, 2008)

A: If it is stock then no you do not have power going to all 4 tires at the same time. A 4wd is different than a AWD in that the 4wd will send the same amount of power to both the front and rear axle. A AWD will send the power to whichever axle offers the least resistance unless it has a limited slip or a locking function. Some Cherokees came with a transfer case that had 5 selections, 2wd, AWD, 4wd, N, and Low. So that deals with the front to back portions. Now on to the side to side. From the factory all Cherokees had a open front differential. That means that the power will go to the tire with least resistance, or one tire will spin in mud. For the rear some Cherokees came with open differentials, some had a limited slip. By now most factory limited slips will be fairly worn out and may not function very well. To find out if it has a limited slip or open, jack up the rear axle so that both rear tires are in the air and spin one tire while the vehicle is in gear. If it is an open differential the opposite tire will spin in reverse from the tire you are spinning. If it has a good limited slip it will be difficult to spin while the vehicle is in gear. Take it out of gear, and the opposite tire should spin in the same direction. (answered by Dustin G on June 24, 2008)

A: It will depend if the vehicle has a limited slip diff or a diff lock.

LSD's will transfer drive from the slipping wheel to a wheel that has traction, so, if one wheel is in the air, the drive will be transferred to the wheel on the ground.

4WDs with a locker in them will spin the wheels at the same rate. It does what it says, locks the wheels. Both wheels will get the same amount of drive at all times.

Some toyotas have a automatically operated locker which kicks in when 4WD is selected, or some have an aftermarket kit where you have to lock a switch. (answered by CMPunk on June 24, 2008)

Q:

Why does my 1989 Jeep Cherokee's front wheels wobble after I hit a bump at 55+ MPH?

I've owned 3 later model (89 to 91) Jeep Cherokees and all three of them had this problem. There must be someone that knows what it is and how to solve it. Thanks
(asked by lbsdavid on October 17, 2007)
