One person dead after officer-involved crash in Payette County Tuesday

A 65-year-old New Plymouth man died Tuesday night, after his Jeep CJ7 collided with a Payette County sheriff deputy's vehicle on U. S. Highway 30, west of New Plymouth, according to Idaho State Police. Johnson tried to turn left off of U. S. 30 at milepost 24, and the police car slammed into the driver's side door as the deputy attempting to pass on the left. Both the deputy and the Jeep were traveling east on U. S. 30. Idaho State Police investigators say alcohol is believed to have been a. factor in the crash. Idaho State Police is investigating the crash. A Payette County deputy was responding with lights and siren to a 911 call of an intruder in a residence in New Plymouth. The crash was reported at about 5:38 p. m. Barry Johnson was pronounced dead at the scene, which was near Custer Road. Here's what ISP investigators say happened:. The deputy was transported to Holy Rosary Hospital in Ontario, Ore. Johnson was not wearing his seatbelt. he was ejected from the vehicle.
