Both the officer, James Delacy, 43, and the suspect, Kevin J. Allen, 23, whose last known address was on Hempstead Avenue, were transported by Rural/Metro Medical Services ambulance to Erie County Medical Center. An NFTA officer shot a suspected car thief on federal parole following a violent struggle Thursday afternoon on Linwood Avenue, according to officials. The shooting marked the first time a Niagara Frontier Transportation Authority officer fired his weapon at a criminal suspect, according to C. Douglas Hartmayer, NFTA spokesman. Delacy was on patrol in an NFTA cruiser at 1:30 p. m. when he noticed a car that had been reported stolen, Hartmayer said. Delacy was treated and released.
