Q:
Information on a Land Rover Series 2a winch?
i recently purchased a 1964 landie in wales. It has an original fitted land rover manufactuered hydraulic winch. The previous owner said that there was only 150 ever made and only about three left in working order. I've tried in vain to find information on the net and in the library to get some history on the winch. does anyone know anything about it or know who I could contact? Thanks in advance.(asked by Ronan M on September 08, 2007)

There is a dedicated Landrover section and what these guys don't know about Landy's isn't really worth knowing!
They have forums where you can ask any question and they have helped me out lots of times! (answered by Velvet on September 08, 2007)
Q:
Could I pull up tree stumps (c.6-8cm diamater) with the winch on my Land Rover(2 ton capacity)?
i have a leylandii hedge i planted about 15 years ago to screen part of my garden,it has since become obselete and a nuisance to cut.i am going to cut them to their stump with a chainsaw. then i was hoping if i dug around the stump and roots it would just pop up with the winch but some friends have expressed doubt. Opinions?(asked by Ronan M on August 22, 2007)
A: Yes it will, just soak the area with gallons of water first though. (answered by tucksie on August 22, 2007)
Q:
was that old Land Rover ad real? (winching itself up a dam wall!)?
I was watching videos of land rovers on youtube and there was an ad where a defender winched itself up the front of a dam wall to the top and then drove away. was that for real or just effects?(asked by Ronan M on September 16, 2007)
A: Those are real. If you go to the land rover website you can find more footage from back in the day. (answered by towbusiness on September 16, 2007)
