The pickups have been involved in three recalls going back to 2008, involving millions of vehicles. Ford is recalling more than a million pickup trucks, including 120,000 in Canada, because their gas tanks can fall off and cause fires. 1 million F-150, F-250 and Lincoln Blackwood pickups. The recall adds to the list of problems with the F-Series pickup, traditionally America's bestselling vehicle. The models involved were sold in cold-weather states where road salt can cause metal straps holding up the tanks to rust. If the straps break, the tanks can hit the ground, rupture and catch fire. The defect has been blamed for eight fires, three of which spread to the rest of the truck. The recall, announced Monday, covers 1. Regulators have become more aggressive since being criticized last year for a slow response to Toyota's sudden acceleration problems. Regulators began investigating the problem back in September.
Q:
A: I own a shop, and I'll tell you the same thing I have told my customers for years. Heat is what kills transmissions. If you are going to tow that much weight behind your Lincoln, then you need to install an external transmission cooler to keep it cool enough. Driving in overdrive won't hurt the transmission, but if you encounter some steep grades, then you will want to shift to the lower drive gear, and keep an eye on the temperature Gage. On level ground the transmission will actually run cooler in overdrive, but its not made to handle the heat generated on inclines. Your engine, transmission, and some vehicles have an oil cooler, all using the radiator for a heat exchanger to keep them cool, so if the engine gets hot, then the transmission is far too hot, and damage will take place. Have a cooler that's about an 8" x 10" mounted in front of the AC condenser, to where it can get plenty of cool air, and you should have no problems as long as you don't stand on the gas every time you take off. Just use common sense, and you should be just fine.

Q:
A: The dealer is correct. It's not even close. New dashboard, new wiring, new sensors. Just buy a nice Garmin or Tom Tom. I would always rather have a factory unit myself, but if it's not done at the factory, forget it. Think about it. If the dealer could make a buck off o you, believe me, he would!
