Q:

Mazda Miata?

I'm looking to buy a used mazda miata in the spring. Any advice on what year to look for and what problems they might have? I'm looking 97-00 with low miles, above that is stretching my wallet a bit too thin.
(asked by David on October 26, 2007)

A: Although your looking for a 97-00, don't steer away from a 90-96 model. They are a lil more spartan, but they are way better on sipping gas, have tons of available parts and ad ons, and they get way better MPG than the more recent versions which are heavier and have larger engines. First don't jump at the first bit. Second get yourself a CarFax check so you don't end up with a Katrina totaled Miata, that even though refurbed, you can't ever resell. Third have a mechanic you trust check out the Miata(s) you like as well. Miatas are a great car, but if you don't protect yourself you can end up with a lemon. Lastly, remember you looking at treating, cleaning, and protecting the interior and exterior from the sun as who drives with the top up? (answered by avgordguy on October 26, 2007)

A: Go to www.cars.com. You can do research and compare the different model years and search for car for sale. (answered by hey on October 26, 2007)

Q:

Why does my 1992 Mazda Miata act funny after I start it sometimes and especially after it rains?

I have a 1992 Mazda Miata and just recently I would get in the car and start it and when i gave it some acceleration it would kind of putt for about 5 seconds and its acceleration would be crap and then it would get going and be good for the remainder of time. This especially happens after it rains. Thanks for any answers.

A: Have you had it tuned up yet? if not try that first if that dosen't work then you may have a fuel problem. (answered by Crazydave on August 08, 2009)

Q:

What is the best year of used Mazda Miata?

I want to buy a used Mazda Miata and it seems the 1997's and 2000's are more wanted than the 1999's. I know they didn't make a 1998. And all models before 1997 have a lower reliability rating so I want to go with either 1997 or newer. Any thoughts? Did the 1997 not have a leather seat option? It seems all the pics I've seen of them have cloth seats. I want leather, all power and I like the tan interiors.

A: I like the earlier NA models with the retractable headlamps (barn doors) better than the newer style. The 90-93 model Miata's had a 1.6L engine and the earlier 90-91 versions had a problem with the short nose crankshaft. I have a '92 with a limited slip differential and love it.

94 and up models have a 1.8L engine with more horsepower and there are a few more braces to make the car more rigid. While the 1.8L may have more power I personally think the 1.6L is more fun to drive like a real roadster.

There are many special edition models that I like especially the 1999 10th anniversary edition which is one of the better looking models in my opinion.

The new MX-5 is pretty sweet too if you have money for a brand new one.

No matter which one you get you will love it. They all have their own personality and you instantly become friends with about 700,000 other miata drivers. (answered by built_in_the_60s on August 29, 2006)
