I am looking to buy a 1987 Mazda RX7 Turbo II. Does anyone know of any problems these cars had? I am not talking about normal wear and tear though. I would like to know if the rotary motor had any special problems.
(asked by Johnny B on October 04, 2007)

A: RX7 is a good car.... if they have not been in storage for a long time. the apex seals tend to "dry up" when left unused for long period's of time...(months at a time) this is the #1 problem with this engine. Other concerns that you might run in to depends on where you live.. I.E. California or some other major city that has smog check. The rotary motor by nature does not burn clean. and they are $$$$$$ to overhaul to bring them back in to federal emissions requirements (answered by Beri G on October 04, 2007)

A: The rotary engine is a very good design with great power to weight ratio. The problem is with the apex seals -- despite decades of engineering no solution to worn seals is in sight, and when compression drops the engine becomes useless. Although the engine only has three moving parts it is a MAJOR operation to overhaul and only a seasoned rotary mechanic should undertake it. If your pontential RX7 has been well maintained and compression is still good on both cylinders then you should have thousands of trouble-free (but gas-guzzling) miles of pleasure. Q:

How Much Does A Mazda RX7 Turbo II Go For?

I was wondering because there is one sitting in a Apartment complex rotting and would not like just rotting there. I would like to get my hands on it before someone hauls it off. I was planning to put a note beneath the windshield wiper with an offer but what would that offer have 2 be? please someone help. and are these cars Rare?
(asked by KKid on July 28, 2008)

A: Unless someone rebadged the car they only had the turbo II badge from 86-88. These are not as expensive as the 93-95 RX7s which go for around $15 in good condition. I would say $5 for a car in decent condition which runs. $8 for a clean car in good condition. Knowing the engine, I would think that if it is sitting, it is not working. In that case, it going to cost more to get it running than it is worth. (answered by AL A on July 28, 2008)

A: Why don't you look it up? (answered by Beth M on July 28, 2008)

Q:

Did anyone knows the name of company that makes the apex seal for Mazda Rx7 turbo 13b that its german name?

They say there black color.
(asked by princesa_24 on April 04, 2008)

A: Black? Sounds like possible black cermaic apex seals (race only super expensive and not streetable)

Rotary Aviation and Atkins are both great choices. (answered by TheChupaCabraMan on February 10, 4542)
