Q:
A: From what I have read in reviews, it does fine in snow.
But no car does good in sleet.
The WRX And Lancer Ralliart are AWD and better for the mountains, but the Mazdaspeed is more fun to drive and slightly cheaper on insurance. (answered by C7S on June 30, 2009)
Q:
A: I am a Mazdaphile. Love the brand. Consider this. Assume both are even and see where you can get the best deal. I have had many cars and trucks in my life. I have had a Lexus 430, BMW 318i, Olds Aurora just to name a few. I have enjoyed my Mazda better than all of those cars. When you can drive a car closer to the edge day in day out, it is a joy. In the States, I could not stretch the legs of the much larger cars with big engines, not enough room and the gas mileage would suffer. A compact car gives you the best of both worlds because the technology has now made possible for a MazdaSpeed3 to embarrass any of the aforementioned brands on any day. Your gas mileage will be great compared to a bigger motor with half the outlay of cash. They wouldn't know what hit them until they see your tail lights get smaller in the distance. A: Because the Mazdaspeed is at a higher level and does not compete with the Si. It competes with the Subaru Impreza WRX and VW R32, and 2009 Mitsubishi Lancer Ralliart.Q:
A: Jeff,
I own a Mazda 3 and I can tell you if the Mazda 3 was not reliable you would have heard about it. Whenever a car is a piece of junk bad news travels fast, far and wide. I am certain you will not get a response that Mazda is unreliable. However, their is a pretty reliable rumor that the turbo seals are going bad (leaking) at 25,000 miles due to overheating, they need replaced under warranty. I would look into the matter.
The turbocharger sits on top of the engine, The optimal location would be in front of the engine to have a source of cool air. As you know, heat travels up from the engine into the turbo further insulated by the hood of the car. It gets plenty hot in the engine bay. Rubber seals expand and contract as they should due to temperatures, it is these seals that reportedly become toast after 25,0000 miles.
Mazda may have a fix for it in the works, check to see if their is a technical service bulletin addressing the issue. Personally, I do not like the smiling grill, not my style. The Mazdaspeed 3 is a great car at any age. Cheers. (answered by mark_hensley@sbcglobal.net on August 27, 2009)
