What car would be better and more reliable? A 2008 Nissan Altima 3.5SE or a 2008 Mercury Grand Marquis LS ?

(asked by WALLY on February 15, 2008)

A: Generally American produced Japan car will out last the Mercury Grand Marquis. Other things like fuel milage and the way the car corners handles snow and modern technology. Ford Sync Mp-3 is a nice feature. (answered by on February 15, 2008)

Q:

tire pressure for 2008 mercury grand marquis LS?

(asked by BabyDoll&trade on February 11, 9000)

A: you should be able to open the driver's door and there is a manufacture sticker on the inside of the door or the b pillar. you should use the factory settings for the tire pressure. no what is on the tire. (answered by glynx01 on May 24, 2008)

A: its stamped on the tire and it should be on a sticker inside the drivers door (answered by makinmud on February 11, 2631)

Q:

Is the Mercury Grand Marquis going to be discontinued?

I'm worried about the Mercury Grand Marquis. I'm only 19, and I know most people say its a grandpa's car, but I LOVE it's full size, v8 regular gas engine, and a SUPER deep trunk. And leather seats, snd its HUGE comfort for all people. I hope they keep making them. I am worried that Ford may be killing the Grand Marquis for civilian use. The ford crown victoria started strictly fleet-only sales for 2008, so 2007 was it for that.

It would make me feel terrible to find out that The Ford Motor Company would stop making the Mercury Grand Marquis.

The reason why i'm worried is that for 2009, they dropped the GS trim level, leaving only the LS trim level. I fear this could be the end. I planned on buying a silver 2004 or 2005 Grand Marquis at some point next year. I don't want to buy a car that they don't make anymore, though. I hope ford can keep the mercury grand marquis flame burning.
Well, it's not my decision. It's all up to Ford's decision. I can't predict this. I have done research and I have found no announcements on when they will stop retail sales of the Grand Marquis.

retail means that everyday typical citizens can buy one for their own. (Like for example, the other Mercurys, the Sable and the Milan are retail).

Fleet-only means ONLY for businesses or other things business-related.

I read in motor trend magazine that 2009 will be the last year for the Ford Ranger pickup truck. But the Mercury grand marquis had no announcement listed if they will discontinue making them.

So, in summary, I currently do expect to see a 2010 Grand Marquis. The '09s are out right now, so you could go buy a 2009 if you wanted to right now.

I just think that this car just started edging to a gradually slow death, by having it only down to 1 trim level, the LS.

Sorry. I just love this big, comfy, spacey, safe, roomy car. I can trust this on LONG trips, can't I ?
When it comes time to buy my Grand Marquis. I want a 2004 silver LS with leather seats, and top-notch like new shape with low mileage.

I plan on taking it on a rip over 400 miles to Pittsburgh PA, to see my favorite NHL team, the Pittsburgh Penguins play a regular season game.

Is the 2004 (gonna be 5 years old this coming year) Grand Marquis reliable and strong enough to take on a long journey like this? I say yes.
(asked by Penguin Dude on November 30, 2008)

A: Yes they are great cars. My parents have had 3 Grand Marquis ('79 brand new, '92 brand new, and a '94 used). They bought a '04 Sable that they HATE very much. They are hoping to replace it with a new Grand Marquis before they quit making them. They thought they would save some gas money, but the Sable only gets about 2 MPG better than the V8 powered Grand Marquis. A Sable does not ride as nice as the Grand Marquis, and it has no room.

You can't beat the safety. My mother was in a accident with the '92 and walked away without a scratch on her. They fixed it up and bought the '94 while the '92 was in the autobody shop. They gave the '92 to my sister. She was in a head on collision about 2 years ago that destroyed the car, but she was able to walk away.
The Panther platform has served it's purpose well for Ford Motor Company. It is, however, very outdated in today's market. I have seen on some web sites that say 2011 will be the last model year for the Grand Marquis. It will be a gigantic mistake!
What I liked was the rear-wheel drive, the V8, room to move, and a big trunk.
They need to keep the Grand Marquis, but kill the Panther platform. They could put an all new 2012 Grand Marquis on the rear-wheel drive Australian Ford Falcon platform. They need to stay away from the front-wheel drive, but a rear-wheeled AWD system would be a nice option for snowy climates. They can use a range of engine choices like the Chrysler 300 does, but the car needs to be bigger than the 300. The 3.5 V6 that they use in the Ford Flex could be used as a base model engine, they could have the 4.6 V8 as a mid-range model, the 5.4 V8 as a "limited" trim level option, and the new 6.2 Hurricane V8 (coming out soon) as a high performance Marauder model. They could even build a hybrid version.
I sure hope Ford doesn't kill it off. They just need to redesign the car. It is after all the best selling Mercury. It would be foolish to stop production.
They are very reliable cars. You should have no problem finding a used one with very low mileage. Many older people own them and they take better care of their cars than the younger generations. Good luck in your search! (answered by apennsylvaniaguy on December 07, 2008)
