If I race a 2003 Mercury Marauder, will it damage it in any way?

I purchased a 2003 Mercury Marauder a few months ago as a family car. I've been thinking of taking it to the track occasionally, meaning maybe once a year. Before i race it, I wanted to know if racing it will damage it or shorten the life of the car.
