Horan's massive Nissan Titan V8 truck had taken pole for the race, almost two seconds faster than Prout and 11 seconds faster than Whakatane driver, Malcolm Langley. Driving his purpose-built Jimco single-seater race car, Prout led both days of the 2011 Asset Finance Taupo 1000 and fought off determined challenges from Kiwi racers Raana Horan and Malcolm Langley, Prout setting a new lap record for the... Australian offroad racer Brad Prout has won the longest and toughest offroad race in the southern hemisphere, leading both days of the 1000 km event held in pine forests near Taupo. At race start, Horan and Prout were locked in battle for the lead through most of the first day, but Horan fell back in the closing laps of Saturday when he had a flat tyre that in turn caused wheel and suspension problems. Sub-zero overnight temperatures froze track surfaces in the forest, making braking and cornering fraught for the racers at the front of the field, who were reaching speeds of 220 km/h in the faster sections of the 50 km lap.

A: If it starts with a jump, it's obviously NOT the starter. Chances are you need to clean and tighten the battery terminal connections. Check the connections to the starter also to make sure they are clean and tight. I would think battery, but if it checked out...did they load test it? If everything else seems okay, I'd get a second opinion on the battery condition. (answered by oklatom on September 09, 2007)
A: If it isnt the battery then it is the starter..... have it checked out. (answered by Stampy Skunk on September 09, 2007)Q:
A: Most sensors are part of the valve stem. If you can transfer them to the new wheels you should be ok. (answered by TonynNC on March 06, 2007)

A: I bought a 2005 Titan XE and so far, I'm very pleased with it.
So far, no mechanical problems at 60,000 miles and the only maintenance I've had to do is oil changes.
What I really like about the Titan is that a V-8 and extended cab (King Cab) are standard. Another feature I like is the 5-speed automatic with manual shift mode, and the low tire pressure warning system, also standard features.
Inside, the cabin is roomy and quiet for a truck. The ride is good, and the steering has a nice feel to it. The stock exhaust rumble is noticeable and pleasant.
Once broken in, the Titan gets respectable fuel mileage. With almost 60k miles, I'm getting 19.5mpg on the highway and 16 in the city. My last chevy truck got worse mileage than that, while making almost 100hp less than the Titan's 305hp.
Titans got a bad reputation from the 04 models and early 05's. Among the big problems were brakes and rear axles, all of which are fixed on the newer models. I don't care who the manufacturer is, you are going to have first year bugs.
I have had a few rattles, but the dealer took care of it.
You just cannot beat the power of a Titan. New from the factory, the ECU limits the power until around 5K miles. After that, it really opens up. A Titan KC will run even with a Dodge Hemi, although the hemi is rated with more hp. HP isn't everything.
There is an aftermarket of performance parts for the Titan. UpRev can tune your ECU for additional performance. We're not talking about 10 or 15hp, we're talking about enough power to drop 0-60 times by a full second. Stock, a Titan will run 0-60mph in 7.4 seconds, with a good driver. With the UpRev tune, expect 0-60 in 6.5 seconds or less. In additon, headers and CAI's are available for the Titan for even more power gains. I've seen a few Titans running mid 13's in the 1/4 mile. That's corvette (non Z06) territory.
For those with the money, a supercharger is available from Stillen. With a supercharger, the Titan can easily put down 400+hp to the rear wheels, putting it in Lightning territory.
Along with those mods, I would recommend the Detroit True Trac, which gives you posi like performance and makes the rear axle nearly indestructable.
If I had to buy another truck today, the Titan would be at the top of my list. The new Tundra with the 5.7L is going to be really nice, but I bet it will be way more expensive than the Titan.
Before I bought my Titan, I have owned only domestic trucks. The biggest problem with the domestic trucks are the transmissions, Dodge being the worst, and various leaks. I took a chance with Nissan, and it will be hard to pull me back to the domestic trucks, unless it's a Duramax HD 2500 ;-) (answered by shotgun_000 on January 21, 2007)
