Q:
A: I'll tell you something about the car because I own one just like it!
It's a 1970 Oldsmobile 4-4-2 convertible with the W-30 package and painted Rallye Red, which was an extra-cost color for that year. They made a decent amount of cars that color.
2,933 convertibles were built, but only 264 had the W-30 package, which increased the engine's hp by 5 (on paper; in reality, a lot more). The W-30 package included air induction (the hood - option W-25 - was available optionally on standard 4-4-2s), red plastic fenderwells, aluminum intake, and a bunch of other hi-po stuff. 168 came with the automatic, and 96 had the 4-speed, which also had a more radical cam which precluded power brakes as an option.
4-speed cars have hit around $180,000 in perfect condition, and automatics are about $30,000 less. The problem with these cars is there's no way to prove they came with the W-30 package unless they are documented. There are lots of fakes floating around, and many people clone them too (from a "regular" 4-4-2 or a Cutlass Supreme) - you could probably get a nice clone for 50 grand.
One note of warning: There's a lot of bad Olds info out there. . . and that's from places like 442.com. Best thing to do is join the Oldsmobile Club of America and learn from the real experts instead of some Wiki page. (answered by inagaddadavida_loca on May 08, 2009)
Q:
A: if it is in excellent shape, about 40k. could be more as they have on eof the hottest engines ever made, and did not have high production numbers. if they engine is ok it is definitely worth restoring. the engine is an olds engine not chevy. that makes it 10 times better.
