Q:

Where is the distributor cap in an Oldsmobile intrigue located?

My car doesn't start when it rains, I hear this is caused by water in the distributor cap. I drive an Oldsmobile intrigue - where is the distributor located and how can I get it dried out?
(asked by Jennie K on October 22, 2008)

A: I dont think a modern car like that has a distributer cap..

I suspect its the battery. Make sure those connections are good clean and not overly exposed to moisture (answered by Dave87gn on October 22, 2008)

Q:

at what speeds should i shift on a 3 speed automatice Oldsmobile Intrigue?

my car goes P R N D 1 2 3 i want to use the gears cause i find it more fun=] at which speeds should i shift the 1st gear into 2nd and the 2nd into 3rd. and also if im in 2nd gear and going say 35 and im coming to a stop light should i shift down to 1st or leave it at second. and say im coming off the highway ramp and i am going to eventually come to a complete stop should i downshift all the way back to 1 or just leave it idk help its confusing me?/!!! i use the tac meter and the sound of my engine to help but i need some spped suggestions. I have a 2000 Oldsmobile Intrigue. help
(asked by Chase B on November 20, 2008)

A: If you feel you need to shift your self do not use the speedometer to determine when you shift, use the tachometer. If you are driving for higher speeds you will want to be near the red line on the tachometer, for normal driving you will want to up shift around 3 to 4 thousand RPM's. Also with the downshifting you do not need to do it unless you want to use the engine breaking. With an automatic the gear you are in just means the highest it will go to, not necessarily which you are in.

So when in second the transmission will use first and second automatically, when in third it will use first, second and third, and so on.

But the best option is not to shift yourself, they were only designed to do it for extreme situations. Breaks go out, towing, heavy loads, slippery roads, etc.

A: my suggestion is: don't be stupid. auto's aren't meant to be driven like sticks, otherwise there would be no point to them. all you're going to do is break your tranny. If you want to have the fun of a straight-shift, BUY ONE. (answered by Stangman on November 20, 2008)

Q:

Where is the thermostat located on a 2000 Oldsmobile Intrigue?

I have a 2000 Oldsmobile Intrigue GL 3.5L V6 that is having minor problems with overheating. My guess is the thermostat is sticky and probably needs to be replaced. I'm just wondering if anyone knows where it's located because I can't seem to find it. Thanks!
(asked by Mark on February 11, 2038)

A: The thermostat on most engines is locate in the water outlet housing where the upper radiator hose connects to the engine but on some engines it is located in the water inlet housing where the lower radiator hose connects to the engine. Your engine is one of those with the thermostat located in the water inlet housing where the lower radiator hose connects to the engine. Follow your LOWER radiator hose to where it connects to the engine and remove and replace the housing which it connects to. The thermostat is an integral part of that housing and so you will need to replace the housing. The water inlet housing and thermostat assembly looks like this:
