Q:

Window Regulator for 1999 Pontiac Grand Am?

I need to replace the window regulator for my 99 Pontiac Grand Am. I have it ordered and should be here any day now. Can some one tell me step by step on what to do and what tools I may need. I need all the stepson how to do it: removing panel, removing old regulator, installing new regulator and reseting the door panel. Thanks alot and I appreciate your answers!

A: Go to a parts house and buy a book called a HAYNES manual for your car. It has EVERYTHING about replacing stuff you can think of. The books are around $15.00 (US) and are worth every penny. Every time I get a new car I get a new Haynes book to go with it. Sure makes things so much easier. The book will even tell you what tools you will need. Q:

I need to replace 1986 Pontiac Grand Am window regulator tape?

This is for manual windows.I wish it was all metal like most cars.It does have a plastic tape that goes into a track the to the window crank.
(asked by Jim A on August 04, 2007)

A: There are two pieces to that system. The regulator and the motor. If the motor turns, and you hear a rythmic, snapping sound, the gears are stripped. If the window slides up and down without any resistance, the regulator is broken. The general rule with those is if one is dead, the other isnt far behind and the best bet is to buy the set and save the energy of taking the door apart twice. A: what do u mean tape.u need to give more info is it power or roll up either way they dont use tape its got all metal parts the only tape i ever seen was on a chrysler power window it was like a long piece of plastic zip tie with deep grovves (answered by B-Bad on August 05, 2007)

Q:

How do you change a power window regulator in a 2000 Pontiac grand am?

(asked by Gary on October 03, 2007)

A: My stepmom had one of those, and to change the window regulator required replacing the power window motor at the same time. (they use the same housing). So to replace it remove your door panel and the old unit, then reinstall your new unit and the door panel. (answered by killzone19 on October 03, 2007)
